The Webster University women's basketball team made the drive down Big Bend Blvd. to take on Washington University, ranked ninth nationally in the NCAA III. The Bears were too much for the Gorloks as Washington U won, 90-39, on December 9.
Washington U took at 27-10 lead over the Gorloks after the first period. The Bears grabbed up a 12-2 lead to open the game before a three-pointer by Chelsea Holman (JR, Dechard, TN/Franklin County HS) cut it to 12-5. Webster slowed down Wash U in the second period, but trailed at the half, 47-24.
The Bears had the hot hand in the third period, opening up a 69-30 lead before coasting to the 90-39 final. Washington U shot 58.5% (38-65) from the field and outrebounded Webster, 43-26 in the contest.
Aley Lucas (SO, Sullivan, MO/Sullivan HS) and Ashley Brooks (SR, Hermann, MO/Hermann HS) both led the Gorloks with five points each and Nadine Vaughn (JR, Pana, IL/Pana HS) and Holman each had a team-high four rebounds for the evening.
Webster, coming off a road win at Principia, fell to 3-3 on the season. Washington U improved to 7-1 with the win.
The Gorloks will be heading to Ft. Lauderdale, FL, for the Trip Sports Cruzin' Classic on December 19-20, where they will take on Piedmont College (GA) and Loras College (IA). Webster will be back home on December 30 when Rust College (MS) visits Grant Gymnasium.
