Box Score The Webster University softball team lost to host Millsaps College, 12-2, on March 1 in Jackson, MS. The Gorloks then watched as its fourth scheduled game of the trip, vs. Huntingdon College (AL), was washed out.
As in a 9-5 loss to Millsaps the previous day, the Gorloks jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Alyssa Sapp (JR, Ashland, MO/Southern Boone HS) and Tessa Johanning (FR, Sullivan, MO/Sullivan HS) led off with singles.
Laura Zeegers (JR, Oviedo, FL/Leon, HS) drove in Sapp with a groundout to short and a Katlyn Garza's (FR, O'Fallon, MO/Ft. Zumwalt North HS) two-out single brought Johanning home.
The Majors answered with three runs in their bottom half of the inning off Webster starter Alexis Spriggs (SO, Scott City, MO/Scott City). After escaping another jam unscathed in the second inning, Spriggs wasn't able to make it through the third. Millsaps reached her for a three-run homer with two outs to give them a 6-2 lead.
The Majors followed with a pair of singles and back to back doubles, scoring three more, and Chloe Costa (FR, Frisco, TX/Frisco HS) was summoned from the bullpen. Costa gave up a double, scoring another run, before ending the inning with a strikeout as Millsaps took a 10-2 lead.
Millsaps scored two more runs in the fourth for the 12-2 final. Spriggs took the loss, giving up eight earned runs in 2 2/3 innings, and fell to 1-1 on the young season. Costa went 1 1/3 innings, giving up two runs.
Sapp wound up 2-3 with a run scored and Garza was 1-3 with an RBI. Chelsea Thornley (FR, Clinton, MO/Clinton HS) made her debut for the Gorloks and went 2-2 for the game.
