Box Score 2 The Webster University softball team dropped a twinbill at MacMurraly College, losing 9-7 and 6-4 in Jacksonville, IL, on April 11. The Gorloks grabbed a 7-2 lead in the opener, but couldn't hold on, and in the nightcap came from behind to take a lead in the contest, but couldn't score over the final four innings as they fell.
In the 6-4 loss, the Gorloks were down 3-0 in the top of the third and scored four runs, all with two outs, to take a 4-3 lead. Emily Kolisch (SO, St. Louis, MO/Incarnate Word Academy) walked with two down and Alyssa Sapp (JR, Ashland, MO/Southern Boone HS) followed with a single. Erin McGinnis (JR, Fenton, MO/Rockwood Summit HS) continued her welcome return with an RBI single, and Laura Zeegers (JR, Oviedo, FL/Leon HS) doubled in two more. Kaylyn DeCock (JR, Bettendorf, IA/Bettendorf HS) singled in Zeegers for the fourth run.
Webster had a chance to add to its run total the next inning with runners at the corners with nobody out, after Katlyn Garza (FR, O'Fallon, MO/Ft. Zumwalt North HS) and Alison Stabenow (JR, Granite City, IL/Granite City HS) singled, but couldn't score. The Gorloks only had two more runners over the final three innings as they lost, 6-4.
Zeegers was 1-2, with a double, two RBIs, and a walk. Tessa Johnanning (FR, Sullivan, MO/Sullivan HS) started for Webster and allowed nine hits, four walks, and four earned runs as she took the loss.
The Gorlok bats came alive early in game one. DeCock singled and Johanning walked in the second inning, followed by a Kaitlyn Kinne (JR, Paducah, KY/Heath HS) three-run homer to make it 3-0 Webster. It was Kinne's second home run of the season.
MacMurray came back with two runs against starter Alexis Spriggs (SO, Scott City, MO/Scott City HS) in their half of the third to make it, 3-2, but Webster would add four more runs in the third. Sapp singled and Zeegers reached on an E9, as Sapp scored. DeCock doubled home Zeegers, and after a Johanning single, Kinne doubled DeCock and Johanning to make it 7-2 Gorloks.
The Highlanders scored four in their half of the third to make it 7-6. Unfortunately, the Webster offense would not have another runner reach base in the final four innings and a MacMurray run in the fifth, and two in the sixth made them 9-7 winners.
Kinne was 2-3, with five RBIs, a home run and a double, and two runs scored. DeCock was 2-3 with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored. Sapp was 2-4 with a run scored. Paige Prather (JR, Evansville, IN/Central HS) took the loss in relief, giving up three runs in two innings.
