Gorloks Complete Series Sweep of Red Devils

Box Score Completing a weekend series sweep of Eureka College, with a 11-0 win on April 27 at GCS Ballpark, the Webster University baseball team improves to 16-3 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.  Starter Isaac Behme went five scoreless innings to pick up his sixth win of the season.

Webster jumped to an 8-0 lead in the first inning.  Charlie Gandolfi (SR, Mundelein, IL/Mundelein HS) led off with a single.  Max Fecske (SO, North Hollywood, CA/Notre Dame HS) doubled him home and Blake Thomas (JR, Troy, IL/Triad HS) was hit by a pitch.  Kyle Uhrich (SO, St. Louis, MO/Webster Groves HS), Jeff Kammer (SR, Chesterfield, MO/Lafayette HS), and Dylan Rajkovich (JR, Orland Park, IL/Carl Sandburg HS) followed with RBI singles.

Adam Naliwajko (SO, Mt. Prospect, IL/St. Viator HS) singled to load the bases.  Connor Hogan (SO, New Lenox, IL/Lincoln Way West HS) doubled in two more and a Matt Wollnik (SO, Naperville, IL/Neuqua Valley HS) ground out drove in a run.  A Gandolfi hit by pitch and an E9 on Fecske loaded them back up.  Thomas singled to make it 8-0.

Webster added three more runs in the fifth.  Ryan Fisher (JR, Manchester, MO/Parkway South HS), who had taken over for Wollnik, walked and Gandolfi doubled.  Jake Celleghin (JR, Westfield, IN/Westfield HS) singled both home.  Uhrich singled home Celleghin, who had advanced to third on a wild pitch and ground out, to make it 11-0.

Behme tied Dylan Dean Smith (SR, Albion, IL/Edwards County HS) for the team lead in wins, as he improved to 6-3 on the season.  Behme gave up four hits, walked one, and struck out seven in his five innings of shutout work.  He lowered his season earned run average to 2.67.  Lost in the hype of all the offensive fury in the series was with his seven strikeouts in the contest, Behme surpassed David Mueller (243) to become the all-time strikeout leader for Webster, with 244.

Behme was already the Gorloks all-time win leader entering into the season with 24 victories and now has 30.  Earlier this season he became Webster's all-time leader for innings pitched, surpassing former teammate Steven Dooley, who had 250 1/3, with Behme's current total at 296 2/3 innings for his career.

Closing out the game for Behme, Matt Goro (SO, Wildwood, MO/Lafayette HS) pitched a scoreless sixth and Uhrich threw a scoreless seventh inning to wrap it up for the Gorloks.

At the plate, Uhrich was 2-4, with two RBIs and Hogan went 1-3 with two RBIs, double, and a walk.  Kammer was 2-4, with a double, RBI, and run scored.  Gandolfi was 2-3 with two runs and a double, and Celleghin was 1-1 with two RBIs for the Gorloks.

Webster is 27-10 on the season.  The Gorloks wrap up the regular season, and the SLIAC schedule, with a three-game series vs. Fontbonne University on May 1-2.  Webster has a single game at Fontbonne on May 1, then hosts the Griffins for a doubleheader on May 2 at GCS Ballpark.
