Gorloks Shut Out Greenville, 8-0

Box Score The Webster University baseball team won its sixth in a row, 8-0, over Greenville College (IL) on April 8 at GCS Ballpark.  Issac Behme threw a shutout for the Gorloks in the seven inning contest and Webster led, 6-2, in the fourth inning of the nightcap before the rains came.

Behme (SR, Harrisburg, IL/Harrisburg HS) extended his shutout string to 16 innings with the seven-inning shutout of the Panthers in in the opener.  Behme scattered four hits, walked none, and struck out five.

With the win, Behme is 4-2 on the season, and lowered his earned run average to 2.88.  Since pitching two scoreless final innings in a 6-4 loss at Spalding, Behme threw seven shutout innings in a 10-0 win over Westminster in his previous start.

A four-run third broke it open for the Gorloks.  Kyle Uhrich (SO, St. Louis, MO/Webster Groves HS) and Jeff Kammer (SR, Chesterfield, MO/Lafayette HS) had back to back doubles, scoring Uhrich.  Dylan Rajkovich (JR, Orland Park, IL/Carl Sandburg HS) singled and stole second, and an Adam Naliwajko (SO, Mt. Prospect, IL/St. Viator HS) double scored two more.  Max Fecske (SO, North Hollywood, CA/Notre Dame HS) singled in Naliwajko, giving Webster a 6-0 lead.

Webster had taken a 1-0 lead in the first.  Alec Bahnick (SO, Owensboro, KY/Owensboro Catholic HS) led off with a double and a single by Blake Thomas (JR, Troy, IL/Triad HS) put runners at the corners.  Bahnick scored on a sacrifice fly by Uhrich.  The Gorloks added another run in the second when Kammer singled and took second on an errant pickoff throw.  Kammer would score on an E5 off the bat of Naliwajko to make it 2-0.

Naliwajko was 2-3, with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored.  Kammer was 2-3, with a double and RBI, and Fecske was 2-3 with two RBIs.

Webster banged out 13 hits as a team and have averaged 14 (70) hits per game over their last 5 contests.

In game two, the Gorloks jumped on the Panthers in the first with six runs. Mike Golich (FR, Aurora, IL/West Aurora HS) singled but was out stealing.  Bahnick walked and Thomas doubled.  Uhrich singled in Bahnick and after Thomas took second on a wild pitch, Kammer doubled in two more.  Rajkovich reached on a bunt single with Kammer taking third.

Rajkovich got into a rundown between first and second as Kammer stole home.  Rajkovich took second on an error.  Wollnik singled through the hole at short with Rajkovich taking third, and then stole second.  Rajkovich scooted home on a passed ball as Wollnik took third.  Zach Allam walked to load the bases before Golich's second hit of the inning scored Wollnik.

Starter Matt Goro (SO, Wildwood, MO/Lafayette HS) gave up two runs in the top of the fourth.  With Webster coming to bat, lightning delayed the game and when the rains finally came the game was postponed with Webster leading, 6-2.

The game will be resumed at a date to be determined.  The Gorloks have won four straight in the SLIAC, are 6-3 in the conference, and 16-8 overall.  Webster will host Blackburn College (IL) at GCS for a doubleheader on April 11.  The next day the Gorloks travel to Jacksonville, IL, to play MacMurray College in a doubleheader.
