Simpson Shuts Down Men's Soccer

Box Score The Webster University men's soccer team lost to Simpson College (IA), 5-0, on September 20 at the Soccer Park.  The Storm took a 2-0 halftime lead, as the Gorloks were unable to muster any second half offense in the loss.

Simpson took a 1-0 lead at the 21:30 mark in the first half.  The Storm scored a second goal just over five minutes later to make it 2-0.  Simpson had a free kick outside the Webster penalty box and did a touch play with one forward giving the ball a nudge while a second took a shot that scooted by Webster goalie Zach Horn (JR, Godfrey,IL/Alton Marquette HS).  The teams entered the locker room with Simpson leading, 2-0.

The Storm scored a third goal at 62:00 in the second half.  Off a Simpson corner, Horn tipped a header by a Storm forward that hit the crossbar and dropped straight down, as a second Storm forward headed it in to make it 3-0.  Simpson scored a fourth goal at 68:00 and added its fifth goal on a header off a free kick with 11 minutes remaining.  Horn wound up taking the loss in goal for Webster.

Simpson College (IA), a member of the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, improved to 4-3-1.  Webster, coming off a 2-2 tie vs. Augustana College (IL) the previous day, fell to 1-5-1 on the season. 

Webster will travel to Decatur, IL, on September 23 to face Millikin University.  The Gorloks will be home on September 26 at the Soccer Park to open play in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference against Principia College (IL).
