Box Score The Webster University men's soccer team took on #14 nationally ranked Washington University, but the Bears were too much for the Gorloks to handle as they fell, 7-0, in a game played at times in a driving rain, on September 29, at the Hilltop. The Gorloks fell behind 3-0 at the half and never recovered in the contest.
Washington U scored in the 15th minute to open a 1-0 lead, then added goals at the 28:00 mark and the 40:00 mark to build the 3-0 halftime lead. The Gorloks battled for the first 20 plus minutes of the second half before the Bears added their fourth goal at the 68:00 mark. Washington U. would add three more goals for the 7-0 final.
The Bears entered the game 5-1-2, ranked 14th nationally and third in the Central region. Despite Washington U typically falling somewhere in the rankings, the Gorloks had been a challenge for the Bears over their last three meetings. Webster lost, 2-1 at home in 2014, tied the Bears, 1-1, at Wash U. in 2013, and lost, 2-1 in 2011 at home, but were overpowered on the soggy night at Francis Field.
The Gorloks were outshot, 21-7, in the contest but did manage four shots on goal. Webster goalie Zach Horn (JR, Godfrey, IL/Alton Marquette HS) had six saves in the game, including five in the second half.
Webster is 1-7-2 on the season and continues play in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, hosting Eureka College (IL) on October 3 at the Soccer Park. Webster then makes another trip down Big Bend on October 7 to face SLIAC rival Fontbonne University.
