Tigers Tame Gorloks, 61-45

The Webster University women's basketball team lost at Iowa Wesleyan University, 61-45, on January 20 in Mt. Pleasant, IA.  The Gorloks couldn't pull off the upset of the first place Tigers, who are 8-1 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

The Gorloks kept pace with the Tigers in the first period, and were down, 14-13 after one.  Iowa Wesleyan took a 29-21 lead at the half and increased its advantage to 42-29 after three periods.  Webster was unable to make any headway in the fourth as Wesleyan secured the 61-45 win.

Webster turned the ball over a season-low six times in the contest, and forced 16 Wesleyan turnovers.  But the Gorlkoks were just 4-14 (.266) from the free throw line and shot 19-55 (34.5%) from the field for the game.  Wesleyan held a 37-26 edge on the boards in the game as well.

Nadine Vaughn (JR, Pana, IL/Pana HS) had team-highs with 15 points and 10 rebounds before fouling out of the contest.  Vaughn was 7-10 from the field.  Taylor Lucas (SO, Sullivan, MO/Sullivan HS) had eight points and five rebounds for the Gorloks.  Freshman Megan Brandt (Sullivan, MO/Sullivan HS) had seven points and four rebounds, and had a team-high four assists.

Webster is 5-4 in the SLIAC, tied for fourth place entering contest, and are 8-8 overall.  The Gorloks dropped their third straight with the loss. Iowa Wesleyan University is 13-3  overall.  The Tigers are not eligible yet for post-season play in the SLIAC.

Webster returns home on January 23 to take on Greenville College at Grant Gym.  The Gorloks will host Principia College on January 26.
