Gorloks Pluck Golden Eagles, 6-1

Beating back another St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference challenger, the Webster University women's soccer team routed Spalding University, 6-1, on October 25 at the Soccer Park.  The Golden Eagles came into the contest at 6-1, tied for second in the SLIAC, but Webster remained unbeaten at 7-0 and alone in first place with the win.  Brianna Pagan led the scoring barrage for the Gorloks with two goals.

Chelsea Noser (SO, Collinsville, IL/Collinsville) opened the scoring at 12:41 in the first half.  Kelli Cardine (SR, Chicago, IL/DeKalb) beat a defender on the right side of the penalty box, dribble toward the endline and passed back to Noser at the top of the Spalding goalie box.  It was Noser's fourth goal of the season.  Pagan (JR, St. Louis, MO/Washington) made it 2-0 at 25:50.  Similar to their first goal, Noser carried the ball toward the endline on the right side and passed back to Pagan in the center of the Spalding goal box.  Pagan buried it for her third goal of the year.

Less than two minutes later, Jillian Zimpfer (FR, St. Louis, MO/St Charles) took a corner kick that deflected off a Golden Eagle defender and into the net for her first collegiate goal.  Pagan made it 4-0 with her second goal of the game, dribbling through the Spalding defense to score unassisted at 41:10.  Webster had 14 shots in the half, with 10 on goal.

In the second half, Alli Ferguson (SR, Highland, ILHighland) made it 5-0 at 51:40, with her team-leading 10th goal of the season.  Ferguson scored off a throw in from Kayla Dye (JR, St. Louis, MO/Windsor).  Kelsey Hausmann (JR, St. Louis, MO/Mehlville) finished the Webster scoring with a goal at 75:44.  Janel Bond (FR, Cincinnati, OH/Summit Country Day) sent a through ball to Hausmann for the assist.  The Golden Eagles broke the shutout, sandwiching a goal in between at 67:36.

Starting goalie Alisa Coralic (SO, St. Louis, MO/Mehlville) improved to 3-2 on the year with the decision, putting up her third straight scoreless half in the first.  Aly Miller (FR, Middleville, MI/Thornapple) took over in the nets in the second half, yielding the lone Golden Eagles goal.

Webster, 6-0 all-time vs. Spalding before losing 2-1 in OT in Louisville in 2015, got back on the winning track against the Golden Eagles.

Webster is 7-0 in the SLIAC and 9-7 overall.  Spalding falls to 6-2 in the SLIAC and 10-5-1 overall.  The Gorloks have a make up contest on October 27 at the Soccer Park, hosting Blackburn College (IL).
