The Webster University volleyball team split a pair of contests on the first day of the 'Pumpkin Bash', on October 28 in Rock Island, IL. The Gorloks defeated Iowa Wesleyan University, 3-0, and lost to the University of Dubuque, 3-0, in the first day of the round robin hosted by Augustana College.
The Iowa Wesleyan match was a conference tilt, and Webster improved to 12-5 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with the win. The Gorloks had an easy time in set one, winning 25-14. The Tigers gave the Gorloks a run for their money in set two before Webster won, 25-21. Webster completed the sweep with a 25-17 win in set three.
Jory Siebenmorgen (SR, Eureka, MO/Eureka) led Webster with nine kills and had a .444 attack percent. Emily Knowles (SR, Belleville, IL/Mascoutah) had eight kills in the match and had a solo block and two block assists. Kelsey Hamann (SO, Waterloo, IL/Waterloo) had a team-high 19 assists and chipped in with 13 digs. Katie O'Toole (SR, St. Louis, MO/Lutheran South) had a team-high 17 digs.
In the loss to Dubuque, the Gorloks battled all three sets, but couldn't breakthrough against the Spartans, a member of the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Webster lost 25-20, 25-19, and came closest in the set three loss, 25-22. Torie Grassi (SO, St. Louis, MO/Rosati-Kain) had a team-high nine kills, and Knowles had seven and two more block assists. Emi Beining (JR, Festus, MO/Lutheran South) had six kills and added three block assists. O'Toole once again led in digs, with 27, and Ashley Robinson (JR, Bloomington, IL/Bloomington) had a team-high 16 assists.
Webster is 12-5 in the SLIAC and 17-11 overall. The Gorloks will face Coe College (IA) and Simpson College (IA) in day two of the round robin on October 29. Webster closes out the regular season at home with Senior Night vs. MacMurray College (IL) on November 2.
