The Webster University volleyball team completed the 'Pumpkin Bash', losing to Coe College (IA), 3-0, and defeating Simpson College (IA), 3-1, on October 29 in Rock Island, IL. The Gorloks finish the 'Pumpkin Bash', sponsored by Augustana College at 2-2.
In the win over Simpson, Webster lost the first set, 19-25, but rallied to win three straight to take the match against The Storm. The Gorloks had a fairly easy time winning set two, 25-15, and set three, 25-13, but had to work to finish off the match in the fourth set, winning 25-20.
Macee Owen (SO, Tucson, AZ/Empire) and Jory Siebenmorgen (SR, Eureka, MO/Eureka) each had 12 kills to lead Webster as Owen had a .409 attack percent and Siebenmorgen hit at .357. Siebenmorgen also had one block solo and four block assists, as did Rachel Mencel (JR, Colchester, IL/West Prairie). Katie O'Toole (SR, St. Louis, MO/Lutheran South) had 27 digs to lead Webster and Kelsey Hamann (SO, Waterloo, IL/Waterloo) had a team-high 24 assists and chipped in with 15 digs.
The Coe 'Kohawks' defeated Webster, 26-24, 25-10, 25-19 in the opener. Siebenmorgen had seven kills to lead Webster. Emily Knowles (SR, Belleville, IL/Mascoutah) had six kills and two block assists. O'Toole had a team-high 13 digs and Hamann had a team-high 12 assists.
O'Toole, with 89 digs total in the four games in the round robin, was named to the Pumpkin Bash All-Tournament Team. With the four matches played also, O'Toole is now second on Webster's career all-time matches played list with 130. She passed Jordan Vehlewald (2011-14), who had 129. Allie O'Toole (2011-14), Katie's sister, is in first at 134 matches played.
Webster is now 18-12 overall. Coe, a member of the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference is 21-10 and is 3-0 vs SLIAC. Simpson, also a member of the IIAC, is 11-16. The Storm was 3-0 vs SLIAC before Webster handed them the loss. The Gorloks' 2-2 record tied for the third best in the round robin of nine teams.
The Gorloks close out the regular season at home with Senior Night vs. MacMurray College (IL) on November 2.
