Women's Soccer Blanks Westminster, 5-0

Taking a step toward its fifth straight league regular season title, the Webster University women's soccer team improved to 3-0 in the SLIAC with a dominating 5-0 win at Westminster College, on October 5 in Fulton, MO.  The Gorloks took a little sting out of a tie with the Blue Jays in last season's SLIAC tournament championship with the win.

Allison Ferguson (SR, Highland, IL/Highland) scored the first goal of the game, netting her third of the season at the 27 minute mark.  Melissa Kasper (FR, Chicago, IL/Oswego) made it 2-0 with her team-leading fourth goal at the 32 minute mark.  Brianna Pagan (JR, St. Louis, MO/Washington) got the assist.  The Gorloks entered the locker room up at the half with a 10-0 edge in shots, with seven of them coming on goal.

Ferguson tied Kasper for the team-lead with her fourth goal, at 56:00 in the second.  The play was set up by passes from Chelsea Noser (SO, Collinsville, IL/Collinsville) and Pagan, with Pagan getting her second assist.  Webster finished with a pair of unassisted goals.  Janel Bond (FR, Cincinnati, OH/Summit Country Day) notched her third goal of the season at the 66 minute mark to make it a 4-0 Gorlok lead.  Kasper grabbed the team lead back in goals with her fifth of her freshman campaign, at the 77:00 mark, for the 5-0 final.

Aly Miller (FR, Middleville, MI/Thornapple) picked up the shutout and the win in goal, improving to 3-1 on the season.  Miller made two saves in the contest.  Webster wound up outshooting Westminster, 19-3, with 15 shots on goal.  The Gorloks also had a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.

Webster had a 24-game winning streak, dating back to 1999, against Westminster snapped in the 2015 SLIAC Tournament championship game when the teams tied 0-0 in double overtime.  The Blue Jays claimed the championship by winning the penalty kicks, 5-4, to advance to the NCAA Championships.

The Gorloks have out right won the regular season the last three years, going 26-1, and shared the title in 2011 with Fontbonne University and Principia College.  Webster has won 44 of its last 47 regular season SLIAC contests.

Webster is tied for first at 3-0 with Fontbonne in the SLIAC, and 5-6 overall on the season.  Westminster falls to 1-2 and 3-6.

Up next for the Gorloks is a home game vs. MacMurray College on October 8 at the Soccer Park.  Webster has a week off then before travelling to Elsah, IL, on October 15 to face Principia College.
