Women's Soccer Rolls Against Highlanders

The Webster University women's soccer team rolled to its fifth win in its last six games, beating MacMurray College, 13-0, on October 8 at the Soccer Park.  Webster remains tied for first place and undefeated in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play at 4-0.

Alli Ferguson (SR, Highland, IL/Highland) got the Gorlok scoring started two minutes in, with a chip in off a pass from Kelli Cardine (SR, Chicago, DeKalb).  Ferguson made it 2-0 just a minute and fifty seconds later with her team-leading sixth of the season.  Sydney Tedesco (JR, Belleville, IL/Belleville East) got the assist, setting up the goal with a cross to Ferguson.

Melissa Kasper (FR, Chicago, IL/Oswego) tied Ferguson for the team lead with her sixth goal at the 33:30 mark.  Nicole Bascio (SO, St. Louis, MO/Timberland) assisted on the goal.  Kasper returned the favor to Bascio at the 36:00 mark when she hit a cross Bascio scored on.  It was Bascio's second of the year.

Olivia Osterhage (FR, Eureka, MO/Eureka) scored her second goal of the season at 40:45 as Bascio picked up her second assist and third point of the contest.  Janel Bond (FR, Cincinatti, OH/Summit Country Day) notched her fourth of the year when she dribbled in alone to beat the Highlander goalie at 43:40.  Webster entered the locker room up 6-0, with a 21-0 edge in shots.

Ferguson regained the team-lead, and completed the hat trick, with her seventh goal at 50:30 in the second.  Brianna Pagan (JR, St. Louis, MO/Washington) had the assist.  Kayla Dye (JR, St. Louis, MO/Windsor) made it 8-0 at the 55:30 mark with her second goal.  Cardine was credited with an assist on the play.  Dye came back just five minutes later to score her third of the year, with Chelsea Noser (SO, Collinsville, IL/Collinsville) gettting the assist.  Dye made it a bonafide hat trick with a third goal in a row at 66:40, with Noser getting the assist again.

Bond got her second goal of the game and fifth of the season, at the 70:50 mark, with the assist going to Kelsey Hausmann (JR, St. Louis, MO/Mehlville).  Bond made it the third Webster hat trick with a goal at 72:50, punching in a deflection off a save by the Highlander goalie.  With her sixth goal, Bond tied Kasper for second high on the team.  The 13th and final Webster goal came on an "own goal', deflected in by a Highlander defender.

Webster starting goalie Abbey Mercer (FR, Granite City, IL/Granite City) had a lonely half facing no shots.  Robin Bolme (JR, Smyrna, TN/Blackmon) took over the nets in the second half.  Mercer got the decision and is now 2-1 on the season.

Webster evened its season record at 6-6 with the win.  The Gorloks are tied with Fontbonne University at 4-0 in the SLIAC.  MacMurray drops to 2-2 in the SLIAC and 7-5 overall.

The Gorloks have a week off before travelling to Elsah, IL, to play Principia College on October 15.
