2-1 Win At Principia Puts Women's Soccer At 5-0 In SLIAC

The Webster University women's soccer team remained undefeated in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a 2-1 win at Principia College, on October 15 in Elsah, IL.  The Gorloks saw a streak of being unscored on in seven halves come to an end, but still picked up their fourth straight win.

Carolyn Ries (SO, St. Louis, MO/Mehlville) started the scoring for Webster at 10:46 in the first half.  Elena Bloma (JR, St. Louis, MO/Eureka) assisted on the play.  Alli Ferguson (SR, Highland, IL/Highland) followed with a goal at the 17:41 mark to make it 2-0.  It was Ferguson's seventh goal in her last four games and her team-leading eighth of the season.  Webster dominated in the half, outshooting Principia 12-1, as it took a 2-0 lead into the half.

The Panther's broke the Gorloks' shutout string with a goal at the 57:20 mark in the second, beating Webster goalie Aly Miller (FR, Middleville, MI/Thornapple).  It was just the second goal Miller has given up on the season.  She is now 4-1 with a 0.44 goals against average on the year.

The Gorloks dominated the second half as well, but couldn't add any goals as they once again outshot the Panthers, 9-5, and 20-6 for the game. Webster had 10 shots on goal in the contest.

Webster is 5-0 in the SLIAC, in first place, and are 7-6 overall.  The Gorloks have won six of their last seven contests.  Principia is now 2-3 in the SLIAC and 3-9 overall.

Gorloks host Loras College on October 17 at the Soccer Park.  The DuHawks (7-3-1) are ranked ninth in the North Region by the NSCAA.
