Men's Basketball Loses Exhibition Tilt To UMSL, 72-64

The Webster University men's basketball team lost an exhibition game to the University of Missouri-St. Louis, 72-64, on November 21 at Grant Gymnasium.  In an unorthodox bit of scheduling, teams don't normally play exhibition matches three games into the regular season, the Gorloks hung with the NCAA II Tritons for most of the contest before UMSL pulled away in the game's waning minutes.

Webster trailed, 34-28 at the half.  The period featured three dunks by Gorlok sophomore Evan Milligan (Evansville, IN/Evansville Central) as he put up a team-high eight points.  But the Tritons hit five three-pointers, including a 4-4 shooting performance by UMSL's Steven Davis from beyond the arc.

The Gorloks battled the Tritons throughout the second half, pulling to within one at 36-35, before an UMSL three-pointer.  Webster tied it up at 39-39 before another Triton three-pointer put them back ahead.  A three-pointer by Adam Etter (SR, Albers, IL/Mater Dei) at the 9:50 mark got Webster close at 48-44 and a Michael Dunn (JR, Tallahassee,FL/Lawton Chiles) layup at 4:40 inched the Gorloks within three at 54-57.  But UMSL increased its lead to 65-56 with 2:30 remaining and closed Webster out, 72-64.

Milligan led Webster with 18 points, had four blocks, and three assists.  C J Moore (SR, Homestead, FL/Miami Killian) had 12 points, four assists, and five steals in the game.  Etter had 12 points, shooting 5-7 from the field.  The Gorloks went head to head on the boards with the Tritons, each grabbing 29 rebounds.  Webster shot 47% from the field and UMSL 53%, but the Tritons hit 11 of 21 three-point attempts.

Webster hosts the Cavallo Classic this weekend at Grant on November 25-26.  The Gorloks start with the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse on Nov. 25 at 8:00 p.m.
