The Webster University women's basketball team rolled to its third straight win, beating Morthland College, 87-38, on November 22 in West Frankfort, IL. The Gorloks have won their games by an average of 32 points and are averaging 83.6 points per game as they open the season 3-0.
Several Webster records fell by the boards in the contest. The Gorloks grabbed 64 rebounds, eclipsing a 22-year old record of 61 they pulled down in a game vs. Principia College on February 3, 1994. Webster took the most shots in a game as well, as the 84 launched beat the previous record of 80 in a game vs. Eureka College on January 6, 2010.
The 49-point margin of victory was the second highest in team history and the largest since the Gorloks won by 65 in a 105-40 win over Principia College on February 24, 2004. The 35 field goals the Gorloks made was the sixth highest total in a single game in team history, and the 29 three-point attempts they took were the third most in team history.
The Gorloks took a 26-11 first period lead, entered the locker room up 45-20 at the half, then coasted through the last two periods as they won going away. For the second straight game, head coach Jordan Olufson was able to utilize all 17 players on his roster, with 11 getting into the scoring column.
Aley Lucas (JR, Sullivan, MO/Sullivan) had 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds for the Gorloks. Kelsey Miller (JR, Elizabeth, IN/South Central) had a team-high 14 points and grabbed six rebounds. Natalie Busscher (SO, Mundelein, IL/Mundelein) and Jaysea Morgan (FR, Fisk, MO/Twin Rivers) each topped double figures as well with 10 points each.
Webster starts the season 3-0 for the first time since the 2001-02 year. The Gorloks are home on November 26, at 5:00 p.m., to host Augustana College (IL) at Grant Gym. That contest will be part of a triple-header at Grant, following two games of the men's Cavallo Classic at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. that afternoon.
