The Webster University men's basketball team downed Morthland College, 83-67, on December 30 at West Frankfort, IL. The Gorloks jumped out to a 50-36 first half lead and coasted to the victory, leading by as many as 30 in the second half.
Webster took an early lead in the contest, building up a 11-point advantage at 11:30 in the first, 19-8. The Patriots closed to within five points, 34-29, at 5:52, before the Gorloks finished the half with a 17-point edge. Webster continued to build on its lead in the second half, leading 81-51 with five minutes remaining in the game, before letting up on the peddle.
Evan Milligan (SO, Evansville, IN/Evansville Central) led the way with 19 points for Webster, shooting 7-10 from the field. C.J. Moore (SR, Homestead, FL/Miami Killian) had 15 points on 6-9 shooting, and had a team-high six steals.
Hunter Ward (SR, St. Louis, MO/Kirkwood) had 10 points and led the Gorloks with four assists, and Rabasa Dobbins-Turner (SR, Memphis, TN/St. Benedict at Auburndale) finished with 12 points. Xavier Dortch (SR, Stockton, AL/Faulkner St.) also hit double figures in scoring, finishing with 10 points.
Thirteen players saw the floor for Webster, with 10 getting into the scoring column. Morthland College is located in West Frankfort, and the Patriots entered the game at 7-4 before Webster handed them their fifth loss.
Webster evened its season record at 5-5. The Gorloks, 2-1 in the SLIAC, are back in conference action on January 4, 2017, vs. Iowa Wesleyan University at Mt. Pleasant, IA.
