The #13 ranked Webster University baseball team lost to the University of the Redlands, 11-4, on March 8 in Redlands, CA.  The Gorloks scored two runs to open the contest, but the Bulldogs wound up scoring in seven of their eight at bats to win it going away.

In the Webster first, Kyle Uhrich (JR, St. Louis, MO/Webster Groves HS) singled, scoring Blake Thomas (SR, Troy, IL/Triad HS) and Matt Wollnik (JR, Naperville, IL/Nequa Valley HS).  Thomas had reached on a single and Wollnk on a fielder's choice.  Redlands quickly tied it up with two runs in the bottom half off of Webster starter Johnny Lord (JR, Naperville, IL/Nequa Valley HS).

Redlands knocked Lord out in the second with another run, as Joe Elfrink (JR, Leopold, MO/Leopold HS) finished up the inning.  Webster scored in the third as Zach Bishop (JR, Marshall, MO/Marshall HS) had a lead off walk and Thomas followed with a double.  A Uhrich ground out scored Bishop to make it 3-3.

The Bulldogs added another run in their half of the third.  Elfrink hit the leadoff batter and Brandon Smith (JR, Imperial, MO/Seckman HS) took over on the mound.  Smith gave up a double for a run but retired the side without any further damage.  Webster scored another single run to lead off the fourth, but the Bulldogs nicked Smith for two runs in the fourth and fifth.  Redlands scored two more in the sixth before Mitch Stefani (SR, Aurora, IL/Waubonsie Valley HS) came in to put out the fire, but the Gorloks trailed, 10-4.

Stefani alllowed a run in the eighth and finished with three innings pitched, giving up four hits and two walks, while striking out two.  Smith went three innings, giving up eight hits and six runs.  Lord wound up taking the loss, giving up three hits and three runs, two earned, in 1 1/3 innings.  He is 1-1 on the season.

Uhrich was 2-4 with three RBIs and a walk.  Thomas was 2-5 with a double and run scored, and Mike Wick (SO, Bartlett, IL/Bartlett HS) was 2-4 with a double and run scored.  Mike Golich (SO, Aurora, IL/Aurora West HS) was 2-4 with a walk.

Webster has a make up game against California Lutheran University on March 9, in Thousand Oaks, CA.  The Gorloks then begin a three-game series with Linfield College (OR) on March 11, in Orange, CA, at Chapman University.
