The Webster University baseball team split a doubleheader at Greenville College (IL) on April 5, losing game one, 4-2, before coming back to take the nightcap, 5-3. Johnny Lord gave Webster a boost on the mound in the game two win with a strong outing, and the Gorloks muscled up by powering the offense with three home runs.
The Gorloks homered three times in
game two, and finished with four on the day. Webster had taken a 2-0 lead in the second when Blake Thomas (SR, Troy, IL/Triad HS) singled with two down and Dylan Rajkovich (SR, Orland Park, IL/Carl Sandburg HS) followed with a two-run shot, his first round-tripper of the season. Adam Naliwajko (JR, Mt. Prospect, IL/St. Viator HS) went deep to lead off the fifth to make it a 3-0 lead.
Kyle Uhrich (JR, St. Louis, MO/Webster Groves HS) joined the home run parade when he tagged his third of the season to lead off the sixth. After going the first 18 games of the year without a dinger, Uhrich, the NCAA III leader with 17 in 2015, has three in his last six games. Naliwajko singled home Jeff Kammer (SR, Chesterfield, MO/Lafayette HS) later in the inning to make it a 5-0 lead.
Lord's (JR, Naperville, IL/Nequa Valley HS) outing was only marred by a Panther three-run homer in the sixth. That cut the Gorlok lead to 5-3, but Lord and Brandon Smith (JR, Imperial, MO/Seckman HS) would shut the Panthers down the final three innings. Lord went 7 1/3 innings, giving up eight hits, two walks, and three runs, while striking out seven. He is 2-2 with the win. Smith went 1 2/3 innings, striking out three for his first save of the year. He has struck out 10 batters in his 6 2/3 innings of work on the season.
Rajkovich was 1-3 with a home run and two RBIs, and Naliwajko was 2-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Uhrich would up 1-4 with a home run and RBI.
In
game one, Greenville took a 2-1 lead after three innings, with a Kammer solo home run the lone Webster tally. It was Kammer's team-leading fourth home run on the season. Webster tied the game up at 2-2, when Jake Milosch (FR, St. Charles, IL/St. Charles East HS) singled home Mike Wick (SO, Bartlett, IL/Bartlett HS) in the fifth. But Greenville struck for two runs in its half of the inning. That 4-2 lead would hold up over the final two innings in the seven-inning contest.
Wick was 3-3 with a walk and run scored. Milosch was 2-4 with an RBI, and Kammer was 1-3 with a home run and RBI..
Webster is 7-3 in the SLIAC and 13-11 overall. Greenville is 3-5 in the SLIAC and 8-16 overall.
