The Webster University men's soccer team lost in overtime, 2-1, to Hendrix College (AR), on September 11 in Memphis, TN. Webster took an early lead in the contest but despite finishing with a 9-4 edge in shots on goal, couldn't generate another tally against the Warriors.
The Gorloks dominated early, taking a 5-1 shot advantage before breaking through on a Dino Music (JR, St. Louis, MO/Mehlville) unassisted goal at the 24:00 mark. After a corner kick by Juan Garcia (FR, St. Charles, MO/Duchesne), the ball eventualy found its way on to Music' foot for the goal. The Warriors tied the game five minutes later at the 29:20 mark, with their goal also coming after a corner kick.
Webster wound up the first half with a 9-5 advantage in shots, with five shots on goal, but settled heading into the locker room tied at 1-1. One 'advantage' Hendrix had in the half was in fouls, committing 11 to Webster's one. The second half was scoreless, with the Gorloks getting off six shots with two on goal. The Warriors had five shots, with one save made by Webster goalie Eli Smith (FR, Orlando, FL/Dr. Phillips). Tied at 1-1, the game went into OT.
The pace picked up in the first 10:00 OT period, with a header by Brendan Shields (SR, St. Peters, MO/Ft. Zumwalt East) being saved by the Warrior goalie at 93:23 and Music firing a shot wide at 97:53. Smith made a save on a Hendrix shot at 96:37 to keep the game tied.
Three minutes into the second OT, Hendrix got off a header that slipped by Smith for the game winner. Webster wound up outshooting Hendrix, 17-14, and had a 9-4 edge in shots on goal, and a 10-4 advantage in corners. With the loss, Webster fell to 1-3 on the season.
Webster begins a three-game homestand on September 14, vs. Illinois College, at the Soccer Park. The Gorloks face Luther College (IA) on September 16 and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on September 18.
