The Webster University men's soccer team improved to 2-1 at home with a 1-0 win over Illinois College, on September 14 at the Soccer Park. Alex Bergmann picked up the shutout in goal and Joey Florian scored the lone tally in the game for the Gorloks.
Florian (SR, Ballwin, MO/John F. Kennedy) broke up a scoreless affair with a goal at 53:16 of the second half. Brendan Shields (SR, St. Peters, MO/Ft. Zumwalt East) played a corner kick short to Dino Music (JR, St. Louis, MO/Mehlville) who punched the ball into the goalie box, where Florian sent it home.
The Gorloks outshot the Blue Boys, 8-2, in the first half, with most coming from long range. Webster also had the edge in the second half, 9-6, just missing on several other scoring chances.
Bergmann (SO, Wentzville, MO/St. Dominic) won his first game of the season, after posting an 8-2 record his freshman campaign. Bergmann had two saves in the game and is 1-1 in 2016.
Webster is 2-3 on the season. The Gorloks have two games left on a three-game homestand. They play Luther College (IA) on September 16 and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on September 18 at the Soccer Park.
