The Webster University volleyball team dropped a tough first set, but then took three straight sets and the match as it defeated Principia College, 3-1, on September 13 at Grant Gymnasium. The Panthers nipped the Gorloks in set one but Webster took firm control for the victory, improving to 3-0 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
The Panthers edged Webster in set one, 25-22, but the Gorloks stormed back, winning 25-16 and 25-12 to take a 2-1 advantage. Webster took a firm lead in set four and staved off a Principia rally for a 25-21 win, and the match.
Jory Siebenmorgen (SR, Eureka, MO/Eureka) and Macee Owen (SO, Tuscon, AZ/Empire) led Webster in kills with 12 and 11, respectively. Webster finished with a 57-35 edge in kills for the match. Emily Knowles (SR, Belleville, IL/Mascoutah) had eight kills, a block solo, and two block assists.
Katie O'Toole (SR, St. Louis, MO/Lutheran South) moved into sixth place on Webster's all-time career digs list, finishing with 30 on the evening. She now has 1469 for her career, passing Mary Jo Schweitzer, Sarah Bailey, and Melissa Zwilling in one swoop.
Kelsey Hamann (SO, Waterloo, IL/Waterloo) had a team-high 27 assists and added 13 digs. Ashley Robinson (JR, Bloomington, IL/Bloomington) had 16 assists and 14 digs on the night.
Webster is 3-0 in the SLIAC and 7-2 overall. The Gorloks have a 19 match win streak vs. the Panthers, dating back to 2007.
The Gorloks head to Bloomington, IL, on September 15 for a match with Illinois Wesleyan University, then to Jacksonville, IL, on September 17 for matches with Greenville College and MacMurray College.
