Women's Soccer Opens SLIAC With 2-1 Win At Greenville

The Webster University women's soccer team won its St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener, winning 2-1 at Greenville College (IL) on September 24.  The Gorloks, dominating play in the first half but trailing 1-0 at the break, jump-started their offense in the second half as they won their second straight game.

Greenville scored 2:50 into the contest on what turned out to be its only shot of the game.  Webster outshot the Panthers, 5-1, with three shots on goal but couldn't get on the board as it trailed, 1-0, at the half.

Allison Ferguson (SR, Highland, IL/Highland) tied it up for the Gorloks at the 61:00 mark in the second half.  The goal was assisted by Melissa Kasper (FR, Chicago, IL/Oswego), giving her a goal and two assists in her last two games. It was Ferguson's first goal in 2016 after scoring five for the Gorloks last season.

Just five minutes later, Kasper made it two goals and two assists in two games as she netted her second goal of the season to put Webster on top, 2-1.  Sydney Tedesco (JR, Belleville, IL/Belleville East) took a corner kick that deflected off Ferguson to Kasper.  Ferguson was credited with the assist.  That goal turned out to be the game winner.  At this juncture the Gorloks had three shots on goal in 23 minutes in the second half, all coming on goal.

The Gorloks dominated play in the second half as well, outshooting the Panthers 12-1 for the game, with eight shots on goal.  Webster had eight corner kicks to the Panthers two.

Alisa Coralic (SO, St. Louis, MO/Mehville) started in goal for the Gorloks.  She picked up her first win of the season and is now 1-1.

Webster is 1-0 in the SLIAC and 3-5 overal.  Greenville is 0-1 and 4-5 overall with the loss.

The Gorloks host #11 ranked Washington University, on September 28 at the Soccer Park.  They resume play in the SLIAC on October 1 as the team travels to Mt. Pleasant, IA, to take on Iowa Wesleyan University.
