Gorloks Lose To #11 Bears, 5-1

The Webster University women's soccer team fell, 5-1, to Washington University, on September 28 at the Soccer Park.  The Bears, ranked 11th nationally in the NCAA III, overpowered the Gorloks, ending a two-game win streak.

Washington U took a 1-0 lead 6:54 into the contest, on a shot from just outside the box into the right corner of the net.  The Bears made it 2-0 at 31:24 on a shot that hit the crossbar, bounced off the ground and was ruled to have been beyond the goal line.  Washington U took a 2-0 lead into the half.

Washington U added a goal at the 48:00 minute mark on a shot inside the goal box off a short cross 10 yards out.  The Bears added a goal off a blast on a free kick, just outside the Webster box, at 63:11.  The Bears had a chance on a penalty kick at 67:03, but Alysa Coralic stoned the initial shot and made a second save on a rebound attempt.  Washington U made it 5-0 on a breakaway, when the Bear forward hit a shot just inside the goalpost despite Coralic doing the best she could to cut down the angle on the shot.

Webster broke the shutout on a goal by Jodi Kaiping (SR, Waterloo, IL/Waterloo) at 89:21, with the assist going to Kelsey Hausmann (JR, St. Louis, MO/Mehlville).  Kaiping took a blast from 25 yards out that snuck under the crossbar off the pass from Hausmann.

Robin Bolme (JR, New Smyrna, TN/Blackman) started in goal for the Gorloks and faced 17 shots while making eight saves.  Coralic (SO, St. Louis, MO/Mehlville) took over the nets for the second half.  She faced 19 shots while making 10 saves.  The combined 18 saves by Bolme and Coralic was the second highest total for Webster in a game.  Bolme falls to 0-3 on the season with the loss.

The Gorloks goal was only the second the Bears' defense has allowed in nine games this season.  Webster is now 3-6 on the season.  Washington U improves to 7-1-1.

The Gorloks travel to Mt. Pleasant, IA, on October 1 to face Iowa Wesleyan University, then travel to Fulton, MO, on October 5 to play Westminster College.
