The Webster University men's soccer team lost to Illinois Wesleyan University, 3-0, on September 27 at the Soccer Park. The Gorloks had some chances in the first half but trailed 1-0 at the half, and the Titans popped in two in the second to secure the win.
The Titans had the only score of the first half, taking at 1-0 lead at the 31:30 mark. Wesleyan had just a 7-6 edge in shots over Webster, but had three shots on goal against Gorlok keeper Kyle Hertel (FR, Sandpoint, ID/Sandpoint). Hertel was named the SLIAC Defensive Soccer Player of the Week the previous day.
Webster outshot Wesleyan in the second half, 11-5, but couldn't find the net. The Titans added insurance goals at 74:32 and 79:10 for the 3-0 final, the last goal coming on a blast from outside the box, taking the Gorlok defense by surprise. Hertel took the loss, and is 1-2 on the season
The last two meetings between the Gorloks and Titans had gone into overtime with Webster losing 3-2 in OT in 2014 and tying 2-2 in 2OT in 2013.
Webster falls to 3-6 on the season. Illinois Wesleyan evens its season record at 4-4-1. The Gorloks travel to Mt. Pleasant, IA, on October 1 to face Iowa Wesleyan University, and to Fulton, MO, to face Westminster College on October 5.
