Eight different players scored as the Webster University men's soccer team defeated Eureka College (IL), 8-0, on October 18 at the Soccer Park. The Gorloks improved to 5-0-1 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference as they hold onto first place.
Four minutes into the contest, Tucker Hively (JR, St. Louis, MO/Priory) crossed the ball to Logan Takizawa (FR, Holualoa, HI/Konawaena), who popped it in for his third goal of the season. Justin Schmidt (SO, St. Louis, MO/Metro) scored his first collegiate goal on a one-touch, off a nice pass from Dino Music (SR, St. Louis, MO/Mehlville) at the 13:00 minute mark.
Joacquin Soto (FR, Flagstaff, AZ/Flagstaff) made it 3-0 at 27:00 with his first collegiate goal. Soto deflected in a shot by Hunter Olaso (FR, Kailua-Kona, HI/Kealakehe). Matt Ceriotti (FR, St. Louis, MO/St. Louis U High) got in on the 'inaugural goal' parade by scoring his first collegiate tally, off a pass from Michael Baldridge (SO, Chicago, IL/Mt. Carmel). The Gorloks outshot the Red Devils, 25-0, for the first half as they led, 4-0.
Nermin Hajrizi (SR, St. Louis, MO/Mehlville) scored his third goal of the year at 46:50 to make it 5-0. Hively got his second assist of the game on the goal. Hively then got into the scoring column himself with a goal at 54:00. Ryan Gonzalez (FR, Sugar Land, TX/Clements) assisted on the score as Webster went up, 6-0.
Then it was Gonzalez' turn to get on the on the board with a goal at the 58:00 mark, with his third goal of the year. Music was credited with the assist as the Gorloks led, 7-0. Tyler Kendrick (SO, St. Louis, MO/Parkway Central) scored at 70:18, with Juan Garcia (SO, St. Charles, MO/Duchesne) the assist. That made it an 8-0 final as Webster outshot Eureka, 46-1, for the game.
A trio of goalkeepers tended net for Webster, Kyle Hertel (SO, Sandpoint, ID/Sandpoint) started and was relieved by Eli Smith (SO, Orlando, FL/Dr. Phillips), who was relieved by Charles McGhee (JR, Waterloo, IL/Waterloo). Hertel got the decision and is 5-4 on the season.
It was Senior Night as Hajrizi and Music were honored for their careers in a pre-game ceremony, that included a video tribute.
Webster is now 10-4-2 overall in addition to being 5-0-1 in the SLIAC. The Gorloks will host Principia College on October 21 at the Soccer Park. The Panthers are currently in second place in the SLIAC at 5-1, one half game behind Webster..
