Webster Remains In First In SLIAC W/8-0 Win Over Eureka

Eight different players scored as the Webster University men's soccer team defeated Eureka College (IL), 8-0, on October 18 at the Soccer Park.  The Gorloks improved to 5-0-1 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference as they hold onto first place.

Four minutes into the contest, Tucker Hively (JR, St. Louis, MO/Priory) crossed the ball to Logan Takizawa (FR, Holualoa, HI/Konawaena), who popped it in for his third goal of the season.  Justin Schmidt (SO, St. Louis, MO/Metro) scored his first collegiate goal on a one-touch, off a nice pass from Dino Music (SR, St. Louis, MO/Mehlville) at the 13:00 minute mark.

Joacquin Soto (FR, Flagstaff, AZ/Flagstaff) made it 3-0 at 27:00 with his first collegiate goal.  Soto deflected in a shot by Hunter Olaso (FR, Kailua-Kona, HI/Kealakehe).  Matt Ceriotti (FR, St. Louis, MO/St. Louis U High) got in on the 'inaugural goal' parade by scoring his first collegiate tally, off a pass from Michael Baldridge (SO, Chicago, IL/Mt. Carmel).  The Gorloks outshot the Red Devils, 25-0, for the first half as they led, 4-0.

Nermin Hajrizi (SR, St. Louis, MO/Mehlville) scored his third goal of the year at 46:50 to make it 5-0.  Hively got his second assist of the game on the goal.  Hively then got into the scoring column himself with a goal at 54:00.  Ryan Gonzalez (FR, Sugar Land, TX/Clements) assisted on the score as Webster went up, 6-0.

Then it was Gonzalez' turn to get on the on the board with a goal at the 58:00 mark, with his third goal of the year.  Music was credited with the assist as the Gorloks led, 7-0.  Tyler Kendrick (SO, St. Louis, MO/Parkway Central) scored at 70:18, with Juan Garcia (SO, St. Charles, MO/Duchesne) the assist.  That made it an 8-0 final as Webster outshot Eureka, 46-1, for the game.

A trio of goalkeepers tended net for Webster, Kyle Hertel (SO, Sandpoint, ID/Sandpoint) started and was relieved by Eli Smith (SO, Orlando, FL/Dr. Phillips), who was relieved by Charles McGhee (JR, Waterloo, IL/Waterloo).  Hertel got the decision and is 5-4 on the season.

It was Senior Night as Hajrizi and Music were honored for their careers in a pre-game ceremony, that included a video tribute.

Webster is now 10-4-2 overall in addition to being 5-0-1 in the SLIAC.  The Gorloks will host Principia College on October 21 at the Soccer Park.  The Panthers are currently in second place in the SLIAC at 5-1, one half game behind Webster..
