The Webster University men's soccer team dropped its opener, 2-0, at Illinois College, on September 1 in Jacksonville, IL. The teams were scoreless at the half, but the Gorloks couldn't answer two Blue Boy second half goals.
Illinois College got on the board in the 53rd minute in the second half. They added an insurance goal at 68:50.
The Gorloks, with heavy losses to graduation, had 11 players see the pitch for the first time in a Webster uniform. Webster got off eight shots to Illinois College's 14, but couldn't find the net. The teams each had six corners in the contest.
Kyle Hertel (SO, Sandpoint, ID/Sandpoint) went the distance in the nets for the Gorloks. He made four saves and allowed the two goals in taking the loss.
Illinois College, a member of the Midwest Conference, was 4-11-3 in 2016. Webster finished 6-3 in the SLIAC in 2016, and were 8-10 overall.
Webster has its home opener on September 3 vs. Monmouth College (IL) at the Soccer Park.
