Webster Men's Soccer Has Second OT Win On Weekend

The Webster University men's soccer team won its second straight overtime victory, beating Rockford University, 1-0, on September 10, in Rockford, IL.  Ryan Gonzalez scored the game winner that broke a 97 minute scoreless deadlock.

On the Gorloks' first offensive push in the OT session, Hunter Olaso (Kailua-Kona, HI/Kealakehe) sent a cross to Gonzalez (FR, Sugar Land, TX/Clements) in the middle of the field that he settled and fired in from 15 yards out.  It was Gonzalez' first collegiate goal.

Webster was behind the eight ball heading into overtime when Edin Mehmedovic (SO, St. Louis, MO/Mehville) was called for a red card at 88:46, leaving the Gorloks short a player for the duration.

Up a man, Rockford put the pressure on early in the OT.  The Regents got a shot off at the 92 minute mark that was wide and Webster goalie Matt Amick (FR, St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh) had to make a save on a shot two minutes later.

But when the Gorloks had their chance, they made it count as Olaso set the winner in motion with his pass to Gonzalez.

Amick went all 97 minutes to record a shutout in his collegiate debut.  Rockford had 17 shots and Amick had four saves in the win.  Webster had a more efficient ratio, getting off 11 shots, with eight of them on goal.

Webster is now 3-1 on the year and Rockford falls to 0-4-1.  The Gorloks travel down Big Bend to face the Washington University Bears on September 13.  Webster's next home game is on September 15 vs. Rhodes College at the Soccer Park.
