Women's Soccer Starts 5-0 W/Win At Cornell

The Webster University women's soccer team won its fifth straight to start the 2017 season, defeating Cornell College, 4-1, on September 15 at Mount Vernon, IA.  The 5-0 start is the best for the Gorloks since the 2013 season.  Webster dominated first half play and coasted to the victory.

Joi Wilson (FR, Tracy, CA/Tracy) opened the scoring for Webster at the 7:34 mark, with Chelsea Noser assisting.  It was her team-leading fourth goal on the season.  Brianna Pagan (SR, St. Louis, MO/Washington) made it 2-0 at 17:10.  The tally was the first for Pagan in 2017 as Webster entered the locker room up at the half.

Noser (SR, Collinsville, IL/Collinsville) scored 30 seconds into the second half, at 45:30, to give the Gorloks a 3-0 cushion.  Melissa Kasper (SO, Chicago, IL/Oswego) assisted.  It was Noser's second goal of the year.  The goal was Noser's 20th of her career and moved her alone into 17th place on Webster's all-time list.

Cornell got on the board at 58:25, breaking the Gorloks' shutout bid.  Kaleigh Finney (FR, Concord, CA/Northgate) completed the Webster scoring at 84:27, with Nicole Bascio (JR, St. Louis, MO/Timberland) getting the assist.  The goal was the first of Finney's collegiate career.

Abbey Mercer started in goal for the Gorloks and went the distance as she picked up her second win of the season. She made four saves in the contest and is 2-0 on the year.

Webster outshot Cornell, 13-10, and had an 8-3 edge in corners.

The Gorloks return home to face Hendrix College (AR) on September 17 at the Soccer Park.
