Gorloks Overpower Warriors In 2-1 Win

The Webster University men's soccer team defeated Hendrix College (AR), 2-1, on September 17 at the Soccer Park.  A second half goal by Logan Takizawa was the difference in the game as the Gorloks improved to 4-2-1.

Takizawa (FR, Holualoa, HI/Konawaena) scored the game winner at 73:26, chipping in a pass from Joacquin Soto (FR, Flagstaff, AZ/Flagstaff).  The goal was the Gorlok's first since the 29 minute mark, but was all they would need as the Webster defense held.  It was Takizawa's second goal on the year.

Webster had a few shots early on but couldn't get on the scoreboard.  Hendrix scored first off a cross that deflected off several players and landed on the foot of a Warrior inside the Webster six-yard box.  He punched it in for a 1-0 Hendrix lead at 28:14.

Just over a minute later, Ben Aziz (FR, Paris, France/Marquette) got tripped up in the Hendrix penalty box and the Warriors were called for a PK.  Dino Music (SR, St. Louis, MO/Mehlville) took the kick and went upper right corner for his first goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1 at 29:45.

A scary moment occurred at the 39:06 mark when two Warriors went up for a ball and bumped heads.  Both players remained on the fied for several minutes before being helped off.  A short time later, Jacob Ridenhour (FR, Jerseyville, IL/Jerseyville) ripped off a shot from just inside the Hendrix box that was saved.

The teams entered the half tied at 1-1.  Webster had a 10-3 edge in shots, with four of them on goal.

The Gorloks challenged early in the second half when a shot by Aziz was blocked by a defender in the Hendrix six-yard box, and Dylan Jannin (FR, Perryville, MO/Perryville) got off a rocket seconds later that was saved by the Warrior goalie.  Webster dominated in shots, with a 22-6 edge in the game, with eight of them coming on goal.

Matt Amick (FR, St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh) went the distance for the Gorloks in goal, improving to 2-0-1 on his freshman campaign.  Despite allowing his first goal of the year, Amick has allowed just one in 252 minutes in the net for a 0.36 goals against average.

Webster will travel to Wisconsin on September 23 to face the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.  The Gorloks then travel to Bloomington, IL, on September 26 to play Illinois Wesleyan University.
