Gorloks Have Tigers By Tail To Start SLIAC 1-0

The Webster University women's soccer team got off to a flying start in the 2017 SLIAC campaign, defeating Iowa Wesleyan University 12-1, on September 30 at the Soccer Park.  Eight different Gorloks scored in the contest, with four players picking up a pair of goals.

Webster scored early, and often.  Chelsea Noser (SR, Collinsville, IL/Collinsville) score a goal at the 2:32 mark, with an assist by Joi Wilson (FR, Tracy, CA/Tracy).  Just over a minute later, Noser made it 2-0, with her sixth goal of the year.  Noser now had 24 career goals, moving into 13th place on Webster's all-time list.  Lauren Nuelle (SR, St. Louis, MO/St. Josephy's Academy) assisted on the goal.

Wilson scored her team-high seventh goal at 11:41, assisted Brianna Pagan (SR, St. Louis, MO/Washington).  Carolyn Ries (JR, St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh) made it 4-0 at 13:31 with the assist to Wilson, her third point of the game.

Jen Laaksonen (SO, St. Louis, MO/Fox) got in on the scoring at 28:42, with the assist by Cassidy Bishop (FR, Salt Lake City, UT/).  Briann Johnson (JR, Hannibal, MO/Hannibal) had back to back goals at 30:48 and 32:06 to make it 7-0.  Kelsey Hausmann (SR, St. Louis, MO/Mehlville) and Laaksonen had the assists on the goals.

Laaksonen netted her second goal at 40:56, with an assist to Nicole Bascio (JR, St. Louis, MO/Timberland) and then assisted on a goal by Kaleigh Finney (FR, Concord, CA/Northgate) at 41:15.  Hausmann closed the scoring for the half at 44:21, with an assist by Claudea Kuykendall (SO, Sikeston, MO/Sikeston) and Webster led, 10-0 at the half.

Nuelle scored off a free kick from 25 yards that hit the crossbar and bounced off the Tiger goalie into the net.  Iowa Wesleyan got on the board with a free kick with eight minutes left in the game with a shot that hit the crossbar as well and bounced just over the goal line.  Alissa Coralic (JR, St. Louis, MO/Mehlville) was in the net for Webster, having taken over at the half for starter Abbey Mercer (SO, Granite City, IL/Granite City).  Mercer improved to 3-0 with the win.

Hausmann finally closed out the scoring with just over three minutes remaining with her second goal.  Bishop picked up her second assist, and the final was 12-1.
Webster had 65 shots in the contest, including 34 on goal.

The Gorloks were the coaches pre-season favorite in the SLIAC to win their sixth straight regular season title.  Webster, 9-1, saw its eight-game win streak snapped at #2 Washington U.   Webster lifetime is 5-0 against Wesleyan.

Webster travels to Gay Field in Clayton, MO, on October 3 to face Fontbonne University.
