Wednesday's Men's Soccer Match at Westminster Chosen as SLIAC Game of the Week

BELLEVILLE, Ill. - Wednesday's men's soccer match-up in Fulton, Mo., between Webster University and Westminster (Mo.) College has been tabbed as this week's St. Louis  Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Game of the Week. Wednesday's match will be begin at 7 p.m. at Priest Field on the campus of Westminster College. 

Wednesday's match features two of the top teams in the league according to the league's preseason coaches poll as the Gorloks were tabbed to win the SLIAC title in the preseason, while the five-time defending SLIAC Tournament champion Blue Jays were tabbed to finish second in the preseason coaches poll. 

Webster enters Saturday's match sporting a 9-2-0 overall record and a 1-0-0 in the SLIAC after earning a 2-0 home win this past Saturday over MacMurray in the league opener for both teams, while Westminster comes into the match-up sporting a 1-7-1 overall record and is 0-0-1 in league play after earning a 3-3 tie last Saturday in league opener at Spalding.

At a Glance

This week's SLIAC Game of the Week will take place on the soccer field when Webster University visits Westminster College in a men's soccer conference showdown. The game is scheduled for Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in Fulton, Mo.
 
Webster University 'GORLOKS'
Webster comes into the game with a 9-2 overall record and a 1-0 mark in the SLIAC. After opening the season with a school record seven straight wins the Gorloks suffered losses to Millikin and Illinois Wesleyan but have since opened up conference play with a 2-0 victory over MacMurray last Saturday.

All nine of the Gorloks wins have been shutouts and they have allowed just five goals this season. Offensively the Gorloks rank 3rd in the SLIAC with 19 goals, averaging 17.0 shots per game. Freshman forward Aamahn Murvin (Sahuarita, Ariz./Walden Grove) leads the team with 13 points on five goals and three assists including three game-winning goals. Junior midfielder Juan Garcia (St. Charles, Mo./Duchesne) is second on the team with three goals.

In net, Webster has sophomore Matt Amick (St. Louis, Lindbergh) and freshman Matt Coffey (Eureka, Mo./Eureka). Amick has played over 750-minutes and recorded seven shutouts while Coffey has stopped all 15 shots faced in over 200-minutes of action. 
        
Westminster College 'BLUE JAYS'
Westminster is currently 1-7-1 overall and 0-0-1 in conference play. The Blue Jays stopped a four-game losing streak by tying Spalding 3-3 in their last outing, on Saturday in Louisville, Ky. Westminster's lone win this season was a 4-0 victory over Illinois College.

The Blue Jays are averaging 9.4 shots per game and have scored 10 goals this season while allowing 24. Brent Lampen and Brandon Rettke are tied for the team lead with two goals each while Patrick Wisnewski has recorded one goal and two assists. Connor Bandre' has played over 600-minutes in net, making 38 saves and recording one shutout.

Last Meeting
Webster won 1-0 in the last meeting against Westminster, on October 12, 2017 in St. Louis, Mo. The only goal of the game came off the foot of junior Edin Mehmedovic (St. Louis, Mo./Mehlville) in the 48th minute on a pass from sophomore forward Ben Aziz (Paris, France/Marquette).

Westminster outshot the Gorloks 15-7 in the game, but managed to put just three of their shots on goal.
