Four Goal Second Half Goals Propel Men's Soccer to Win at Eureka

EUREKA, Ill. - Webster University tallied four second half goals here Saturday afternoon as the Gorloks posted a 5-0 shutout victory in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer action at Traister Field.

With the win, Webster improves to 12-3-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the SLIAC, while Eureka falls to 6-9-0 overall and 1-6-0 in the SLIAC.

The shutout was the 13th of the season for the Gorloks and fifth time in six SLIAC matches that Webster has posted a shutout. The 13 shutouts is a new single season record as it betters the previous school record of 11 shutouts set most recently in 2005.

In Saturday's match, Webster recorded 25 shots and had 11 shots on goal in the win.

Freshman midfielder Isaac Pearson (St. Louis, Mo./Hazelwood) scored the first of his two goals in the 43rd minute of the match as he took a pass from freshman midfielder Ben Appelbaum (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway South) for his second goal of the season.

Pearson's goal came on Webster's 15th shot and sixth shot on goal in the opening half.

Junior midfielder Juan Garcia (St. Charles, Mo./Duchesne) got the scoring started in the second half as he scored on a penalty kick less than two minutes in the half. The goal by Garcia was his sixth of the season, which is second on the team.

In the 65th minute, sophomore Jacob Ridenhour (Jerseyville, Ill./Jerseyville) found the net as he scored his second goal of the season off an assist from sophomore midfielder Joacquin Soto (Flagstaff, Ariz./Flagstaff). Ridenhour's goal gave the Gorloks a 3-0 lead.

Pearson made it 4-0 in the 66th minute as he took a pass from freshman forward Aamahn Murvin (Sahuarita, Ariz./Walden Grove) and found the net for his first career two goal game and just the fourth two goal match this season by a Gorlok player.

Freshman midfielder Cody Ruhl (St. Louis, Mo./Mehlville) completed the scoring as he scored a goal on a penalty kick in the 73rd minute to make the score 5-0 in Webster's favor.

Murvin, Pearson and freshman midfielder Justin Kohler (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) each had four shots in the win and those three combined for four of WU's 11 shots on goal. Garcia, Ruhl and junior midfielder Chris Clay (Quincy, Ill./Millikin) each added three shots.

Eureka, who had nine shots and four shots on goal, got three shots from James Bowen, while Martin Cristian Martin, Diego Cintora and Cade Collins each had two shots in the loss.

Sophomore goalkeeper Matt Amick (St. Louis, Mo./Lindbergh) posted the win in goal for the Gorloks as he recorded four saves to improve to 9-2-1 on the season. The shutout was the 10th of the season for Amick and has now recorded 12 shutouts in his two years as a Gorlok.

Moises Aldana (3-6-0) took the loss in net for the Red Devils as he recorded six saves and allowed five goals for the match.

Webster will remain on the road as they travel to Mount Pleasant, Iowa, for a 3 p.m. SLIAC match on Tuesday, Oct. 23 against Iowa Wesleyan.
