WEBSTER GROVES - Webster University Softball has announced that is four games scheduled for this weekend at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn., have been canceled due to a forecast that calls for inclement weather.
The Gorloks were scheduled to open its 2018 campaign with games on Saturday, Feb. 10 against Agnes Scott College at 10 a.m. and Rhodes College at 12 p.m. and then were scheduled to face Agnes Scott and Rhodes again on Sunday, Feb. 11 and 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. respectively.
"There was a 100 percent chance of rain all day on Saturday and then a 50 percent chance of rain and temperatures hovering in the mid 30's on Sunday," Webster head softball coach
Chris Eaton said. "So we didn't want to be in a situation where we travel to Memphis and then spend all weekend waiting out the weather and then possibly not playing any games at all."
With this weekend's cancellation, the Gorloks are currently now scheduled to open the season on Saturday, March 3 with a doubleheader at Blackburn Park against the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
Eaton said that he is hopeful he will be able to find an opponent to play before the doubleheader against UW-Platteville on March 3.
"We're disappointed we won't be able to play this weekend, but we understand that the weather at this time of year can be unpredictable," said Eaton, who is entering his 10th season with the Gorloks in 2018. "We have to wait another three weeks to play, so hopefully we can find another opponent to add to our schedule."
