FENTON, Mo. - Webster University concluded its three-match season opening homestand here Wednesday evening by scoring a season high four goals, including two from junior midfielder
Payton Williams (St. Louis, Mo./Fort Zumwalt East) en route to posting a 4-1 victory over Millikin University at World Wide Technology Soccer Park.
With Wednesday's win, Webster improves to 3-0 on the season and has now scored 10 goals and allowed just two through its first three matches this season. It marks the second consecutive season thar Webster has started 3-0 and the eighth time in program history. Millikin fell to 0-4-0 on the season with the loss.
Williams, who leads the team with three goals this season, opened the scoring in Wednesday's match in the 17th minute as she took a pass from junior midfielder
Savannah Page (Sandy, Utah/Sandy) and scored from 28 yards out to give the Gorloks a 1-0 lead.
Webster's lead grew to 2-0 with a little less than six minutes left in the first half as freshman forward
Kendra Neill (Joliet, Ill./Joliet West) got open in the middle of the field and scored a goal from nearly 26 yards out to make the score, 2-0.
The Gorloks would push its lead to 3-0 with just seven seconds left in the half as freshman midfielder
Kaitlyn Theriot (Lake St. Louis, Mo./Liberty) took a pass across the box from four yards out from freshman
Julia Paradise (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway North) to connect on her first goal of the season.
Theriot's goal came on the 11th shot of the half for the Gorloks as Webster finished the game with a 16-12 edge in shots. Seven of those shots came on goal for the match.
While Webster's offense tallied a season high four shots and took 16 shots, the Gorloks defense continued to be solid as they shutout the Big Blue in the opening period and held them to just three shots, including two shots on goal.
Unlike the first half, Millikin's offense seemed to wake up in the second half as they recorded nine shots, including five shots on goal after halftime, including scoring its only goal of the match in the 51st minute by Amanda Noser. Noser's goal came off a dribble from about 16 yards out.
Williams would complete the scoring in the 80th minute on a penalty kick.

Joi Wilson (Tracy, Calif./Tracy) led the way offensively for the Gorloks with four shots, while Willams had three shots. Junior forward
Melissa Kasper (Oswego, Ill./Oswego), senior midfielder
Carolyn Ries (St. Louis, Mo./Lindbergh) and Neill each had two shots in the win.
Kat Stiles and Lucy Koger each had three shots on the night in the loss, while all three of Stiles' shots were on goal.
Senior goalkeeper
Alisa Coralic (St. Louis, Mo./Mehlville) played all 90 minutes in the net and recorded six saves and allowed just that goal in 51st minutes to Noser. Through three matches, Coralic has played 270 minutes in goal and has allowed just two goals, made 18 saves and has faced 37 shots.
Millikin goalkeeper Jennifer Miller (0-4-0) recorded three saves and allowed four goals in her 90 minutes in net.
Webster will hit the road for the first time this season on Saturday, Sept. 8 as the Gorloks travel to Lisle, Ill., for a 12 p.m. match at Benedictine (Ill.) University. Last season, the Gorloks picked up a 2-1 home win over the Eagles at WWT Soccer Park.
