LISLE, Ill. - Playing its road match of the season here Saturday afternoon, Webster University women's soccer used a goal with 117 seconds left in the match from senior defender
Jillian Zimpfer (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles) to post a 2-1 come-from-behind win over Benedictine University at The Sports Complex.
With the win, Webster improves to 4-0 on the season and has now started the season 4-0 for the second consecutive year and ninth time in the program's 20 year history. Benedictine fell to 2-2 with the loss.
Zimpfer's score, which was her first career game winning goal, came off a pass from junior midfielder
Olivia Osterhage (Eureka, Mo./Eureka) on a failed clearance that was driven under the crossbar. Along being her first career game-winning goal, it was just the second career goal for Zimpfer.
All three of the goals in Saturday's match came in the second half as the team's combined for eight shots and three shots on the goal in the opening 45 minutes. Most the first half was played around midfield.
The match's first goal came in the 57th minute as after a foul, BU's Sammie Sarles connected on a free kick from 40 yards out near the goal and the ball was redirected off the foot of a defender and into the goal to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.
Benedictine's own goal marked the first time this season that the Gorloks has trailed in a match as they entered the contest having held the lead for nearly 327 minutes this season.
Webster, though, would answer about 10 minutes later as junior forward
Melissa Kasper (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) tied the match on her second goal of the season in the 67th minute. Kasper's goal came off a quick pass thru traffic near the net and was assisted by Osterhage and senior forward
Nicole Bascio (Wentzville, Mo./Timberland).
After recording just five shots in the first half, Webster's offense tallied six shots and had three shots on goal after halftime and finished with 11 shots for the match.
Kasper had three shots in the game, while Zimpfer and senior midfielder
Carolyn Ries (St. Louis, Mo./Lindbergh) each had two shots.
Osterhage tied a career high with her two assists and now leads the team with four on the year.
While Webster had 11 shots and five shots on goal, the Eagles recorded six shots and two shots on goal against senior goalkeeper
Alisa Coralic (St. Louis, Mo./Mehlville). Eve Meintz had two of BU's six shots.
Coralic, who improved to 4-0-0 on the year, played all 90 minutes in the net and recorded one save and allowed just that own goal by the Eagles.
Cassidy Henson (2-2-0) took the loss in goal for the Eagles as she allowed two goals and had three saves in the loss.
The Gorloks will look to make it five straight wins as they return home to host Monmouth (Ill.) College for a 7 p.m. match on Wednesday, Sept. 12 at World Wide Technology Soccer Park in Fenton, Mo.
