WEBSTER GROVES - Webster University Baseball has announced that this weekend's Webster BSN Sports Classic that was scheduled to be played at GCS Credit Union Ballpark in Sauget, Ill., has been reduced from a total of seven games over three days to just a doubleheader on Friday, March 1 between the Gorloks and Buena Vista.
The Gorloks, who are 2-1 on the season and taking two of three games this past weekend at home against Transylvania, were originally scheduled to face Buena Vista in a single game on Friday, before meeting North Park on Saturday and concluding the event on Sunday with a game against Benedictine, but a forecast that calls to temperatures below freezing for almost the entire weekend forced Webster head coach
Bill Kurich to make an adjustment to the schedule.
"The weather is not looking good for this weekend, especially with temperatures hovering around the mid-20's, so we decided to play a doubleheader on Friday against Buena Vista and then cancel the remainder of this weekend's games," said Kurich, who is two wins shy of 400 career coaching victories.
With the change in schedule for this weekend's Webster BSN Sports Classic, Webster, who is ranked 15th and 16th respectively in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper and the D3Baseball.com/NCBWA preseason polls, will now play a doubleheader with Buena Vista beginning at 12 p.m.
Along with announcing the change in this weekend's schedule, Kurich also announced that his team has picked up another game during its Spring Break trip to Florida in early March as the Gorloks will now face Benedictine in a 6:30 p.m. CST on Friday, March 15 at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex in Auburndale, Fla. The game will Benedictine will now give the Gorloks a total of eight games in nine days during its trip to Florida for the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.
