FULTON, Mo. – Webster University Women's Basketball late season struggles continued here Wednesday evening as the Gorloks dropped its third straight game as they fell 79-64 to Westminster College in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action at Historic Gym on the Westminster campus.
With the setback, Webster falls to 15-7 overall and 9-5 in the SLIAC, while Westminster improves to 17-5 overall and 11-3 in the league. The two teams split the season series as the Gorloks won 71-70 at Grant Gymnasium on Jan. 5.
It was the first time since the 2015-16 season that Webster had lost three consecutive games. In addition, Webster has now allowed its last three opponents to score over 75 points.
The loss spoiled the career night turned in from sophomore forward
Darieana Hunter (Norman, Okla./Norman) as he tallied a career high 21 points and added six points and a career high four steals. Over her last five games, Hunter is averaging 8.8 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.

Addison Beussink (Jackson, Mo./Saxony Lutheran) added 13 points, all of which came in the second half, in the loss. Freshman guard
Hannah Cottrell (Steelville, Mo./Steelville) added nine points and six assists.
Wednesday's game turned against the Gorloks in the second quarter as the Blue Jays outscored the Gorloks, 25-10 in the quarter, including limiting Webster to just four points over a span of nearly eight minutes to go into halftime holding a 42-26 lead.
In the second half, Webster would outscore the Blue Jays, 38-37, but was only able to cut one point off Westminster's final margin.
Kendahl Adams was one of four Blue Jays to finish in double figures as she tallied 20 points and added eight boards, while Mirrakohl Johnson posted a double-double of 19 points and 15 rebounds. Kailee Dowler had 15 points and Makayla Jackson chipped in with 11 points in the win.
The Blue Jays jumped out to a 10-5 lead just a little under five minutes into the game, before the Gorloks used a 9-2 run capped by a 3-pointer from sophomore guard
Jasmine Bishop (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) to take a 14-12 lead with 2:06 left in the quarter.
Westminster, though, would close out the quarter on a 5-2 run to take a 17-16 lead after the first 10 minutes.
The Blue Jays owned the second quarter as they outscored the Gorloks, 25-10, to take a 42-26 lead at the half. In the quarter, Westminster shot 50 percent from the field and was 5-for-7 (71.4 percent) at the free throw line, while Webster shot 39 percent from the field and was 0-for-2 from the 3-point line and did not shoot a free throw in the quarter.
Webster mounted a mini-rally in the third quarter as they scored the first six points of the quarter to cut Westminster's lead to 42-33, but the Blue Jays responded by scoring 14 of the next 20 points to push its lead 56-39 with 5:33 left in the quarter.
Hunter would stop WC's run with a tip-in at the 5:11 mark, but a three-pointer by Adams jump started a 9-7 run to help the Blue Jays hold a 65-48 lead after three quarters.
Westminster's lead would grow to as much as 20 points nearly three minutes into the final quarter on a lay-up by Adams. Adams' lay-up made the score, 71-51. Webster, though, would outscore Westminster, 14-8 over the final six-plus minutes of the game to set the final margin. In the final quarter, Hunter scored six of her team's 16 points, while Bishop capped the game's scoring with two free throws with seven seconds left.
For the game, both teams shot 43 percent from the field, but the Blue Jays shot 35 percent (10-for-29) from the 3-point line and the Gorloks made just three of its 11 (27.3 percent) of its 3-pointers.
Webster, who entered the game with a +10.0 rebound margin on the season, was outrebounded, 40-28, including 15-10 on the offensive glass.
The Gorloks forced Westminster into 23 turnovers that led to 21 points, while the Gorloks committed 20 turnover that led to 26 points for the Blue Jays.
Both teams shot under 70 percent from the free throw line as Webster went 11-for-17 (64.7 percent) at the line and Westminster went 17-for-25 (68 percent) at the line.
Webster will look to put the brakes on its three-game losing skid this coming Saturday, Feb. 9 as they host Blackburn College (4-18 overall, 1-13 SLIAC) for its annual Pink Out Game at 1 p.m. in Grant Gymnasium. The Gorloks picked up a 91-58 win earlier this season at Blackburn. A win over Blackburn will secure a spot in the SLIAC Tournament for the Gorloks.
