Softball Set to Open Play Friday at 2019 PFX Spring Games

LAKELAND, Fla. - Webster University Softball is set to begin its eight game Spring Break trip to Florida here Friday afternoon as the Gorloks open play in the 2019 PFX Spring Games with games against Rhodes College and Concordia (Minnesota) at Legends Way Ballfields at the National Training Center in Clermont, Fla.

Friday's two games begin a stretch of eight games in five days for the Gorloks on its trip to Central Florida.

Webster, who is 0-2 on the season, hasn't played since dropping two games in Memphis, Tenn., to Rhodes College and Maryville (Tenn.) College on Feb. 16. Since those two games, the weather has wrecked havoc on the Gorloks schedule as they had their final two games in Memphis on Feb. 17 canceled due to wet and unplayable field conditions and then WU's game this past Sunday, March 3 at WashU was postponed due to weather and rescheduled as a doubleheader on April 23.

"We are excited to get back after it this weekend in Florida and see what progress we've made since our last game action in mid-February," said Webster interim head softball coach Katie Griffith. "I am anxious to see how our team plays during its trip to Florida."

The weather shouldn't be a factor for the Gorloks during its stay in Central Florida as the forecast calls for temperatures in the mid-80's the entirety of their stay in the Sunshine State.

Webster opens up play in the PFX Spring Games on Friday at 3:45 p.m. ET against Rhodes College (13-3) and then will conclude Friday's action with a 6 p.m. ET game with Concordia (Minn.) College. Both of Friday's game will be played at Legends Way Field #3.

On Saturday, March 9, the Gorloks will travel to the Fortune Road Athletic Complex in Kissimmee, Fla., for games against Plymouth State (0-0) at 12:30 p.m. ET and Kean University (4-1) at 3 p.m. ET. Both of those games will be played on Fortune Road Field #2.

After taking a day off on Sunday, Webster will return to the Fortune Road complex for two more games on Monday, March 11. On March 11, the Gorloks will open with a 9:30 a.m. ET game with Keene State (0-0), before facing UMass-Dartmouth (0-0) at 11:45 a.m. ET. Both of those games will be played on Fortune Road Field #1.

Webster will then conclude its eight game trip to Florida on Tuesday, March 12 as they face the Coast Guard Academy (0-0) at 9 a.m. ET and then plays Geneva (Pa.) College at 1:30 p.m. ET. Both of Tuesday's games will be played at the Osceola County Softball Complex as they Coast Guard game will be played on Field 1 and the Geneva College will be played on Field 3.
