Baseball Ranked 18th, Receiving Votes in Latest ABCA and D3Baseball.com Polls

WEBSTER GROVES - Webster University comes into Thursday's showdown at 10th and 13th-ranked WashU ranked 18th in this week's latest ABCA/Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll that was released on Tuesday afternoon.

Along with being ranked 18th in the ABCA/Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll, Webster earned 63 votes to be first among the team's earning votes in this week's NCBWA/D3Baseball.com Poll. 

In this week's sixth regular season ABCA/Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Top 30 poll, Webster advanced two spots from No. 20 to No. 18 and earned the most votes of the teams receiving votes in this week's ninth regular season NCBWA/D3Baseball.com Top 25 poll.  

Webster, who is sporting a 24-8 overall and is 14-3 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, earned 178 points to sit six points behind No. 17 Wisconsin-Whitewater (184 points) and 10 points in front of No. 19 Methodist (168 points). Meanwhile, in the NCBWA/D3Baseball.com poll, Webster received 63 votes to be the highest team receiving votes in the poll for the second straight week and just missed being ranked by a mere 12 points as No. 25 Birmingham Southern earned 75 points in this week's poll. 
 
In this week's latest ABCA/Collegiate Baseball poll, Concordia-Chicago (26-2) still remains atop the poll at No. 1 as the Cougars, who picked up a 4-1 win earlier this season over the Gorloks and will host Webster for a doubleheader on Wednesday, May 1, earned 476 points in the poll. Christopher Newport (27-4) remains at No. 2 as they earned 450 points and is followed by Southern Maine (23-5) at No. 3, while Rowan (24-7) jumps two spots to No. 4 and College of the New Jersey (25-5) tumbles two spots to No. 5 this week. 

Much like the ABCA/Collegiate Baseball poll, Concordia-Chicago remains No. 1 in this week's NCBWA/D3Baseball.com poll as they earned 618 points and 20 first place votes. Christopher Newport (27-4) remains second as they earned 593 points and three first place votes, while Southern Maine (23-5) stays third as they earned 552 points. Rowan (24-7) remains at No. 4 as they earned the final two first place votes and 519 points and Trinity (Texas) (30-9) jumps one spot to No. 5 in this week's poll.

In addition to Webster, who is the lone SLIAC team ranked, one other league school, Spalding earned votes in both of this week's polls as the Golden Eagles, who swept a doubleheader against the Gorloks in Louisville, Ky., on March 20, earned 15 votes in the ABCA/Collegiate Baseball poll and 20 votes in the NCBWA/D3Baseball.com poll. 

Webster, who will play a single game on Thursday, April 25 at WashU beginning at 3 p.m., will also host a SLIAC doubleheader on Saturday, April 27 against Fontbonne University at GCS Credit Union Ballpark in Sauget, Ill. The doubleheader with the Griffins is scheduled for 5 p.m., with the second game to follow about 40 minutes after the conclusion of the first game. The two teams will also play a single game on Sunday, April 28 at 1 p.m. at Clayton High School in Clayton, Mo.
