Kasper's Overtime Goal Seals Women's Soccer Win at Anderson

ANDERSON, Ind. - Webster University senior forward Melissa Kasper (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) connected on goal in the 96th minute here Saturday to give the Gorloks a 1-0 overtime win over Anderson University in non-conference women's soccer action at the AU Soccer Field.

With the win, Webster improves to 6-3-0 on the season, while the Gorloks handed the first loss of the season to Anderson as the Ravens fell to 6-1-1 on the season. Saturday's match was the final non-conference regular season match for the Gorloks.

Kasper's goal, which was her sixth of the season and 40th of her collegiate career, was unassisted as she took the away from an Anderson player near midfield and pushed the ball up the field and took a shot that found the goal for Kasper's second game winning goal this season. With the goal, Kasper became just the eighth player in school history to score at least 40 goals.

The unassisted goal by Kasper was her only shot of the match as she has now taken 22 shots this season and has had at least one shot in seven of Webster's nine matches this season.

For the match, Webster outshot Anderson, 12-11 and held a 10-2 edge on corner kicks.

Senior midfielder Savannah Page (Sandy, Utah/Jordan) and sophomore forward Jordan Lande (Sachse, Texas/Sachse) each had two shots, while eight other Gorloks recorded a shot in the win.

In the 13th minute, senior midfielder Olivia Osterhage (Eureka, Mo./Eureka) put a shot over the crossbar, which came just 15 seconds after Page had a shot blocked.

The Ravens had a scoring chance in the 33rd minute off a free kick by Katie Essick, but Gorlok freshman goalkeeper Taryn Banfield (Plano, Texas/Plano East) made a save on Essick's shot to keep the match scoreless.

Anderson had three scoring chances in the opening 14 minutes of the second half, but two of those shots were off target and the third was saved by Banfield.

In the 80th minute, Lande put a shot up near goal that hit the crossbar to keep the match tied and in the 88th minute, freshman defender Keri Voegtle (St. Louis, Mo./Windsor) had her shot sail over the crossbar to send the match into overtime.

Kasper's goal in overtime was the only shot by either team in the extra session.

Harper Manion paced Anderson with four shots and had three shots on goal, while seven other Ravens had one shot in the match.

Banfield (5-2-0) earned the win in net for the Gorloks as she played all 95-plus minutes and recorded six saves.

Anderson's D'Anjrea Allen (6-1-1) took the loss in goal for the Ravens as she recorded three saves and allowed just that one goal.

Webster was whistled for 13 fouls, while Anderson had six in the match.

The Gorloks will now take a week off before opening St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play next Saturday, Oct. 5 at Eureka, Ill., against Eureka College. The Eureka College match is scheduled for an 11 a.m. kickoff.
