Webster Athletics Suspends Athletic Activities For Remainder of Spring Semester

WEBSTER GROVES – In response to the ongoing spread of the COVID-19 Coronavirus, Webster University Athletics will be suspending all athletics activities, including all contests and practices for the remainder of the spring semester.

The suspension of all spring sports at Webster University was spearheaded by the announcement on Monday evening by the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference to effectively cancel all spring athletic competitions and championships for the remainder of the 2019-20 academic year.

This suspension of all athletics activities includes the use of all off-campus facilities utilized by Webster's athletic teams and also any strength and conditioning sessions.

"Our highest priority is the safety and well-being of our student-athletes, as well as, all members of the Webster University community," Webster Director of Athletics Scott Kilgallon said. "We are facing an unprecedented crisis that is impossible to predict what might happen and the situation continues to be fluid and this action is required to contain the potential spread of COVID-19."

On March 12, the NCAA announced the cancellation of all remaining NCAA winter and spring championship events across all three divisions.

The canceling of the remainder of the spring sports seasons and championships impacts the sports of baseball, men's and women's golf, softball, men's and women's tennis, and men's and women's outdoor track and field. All results and statistics for teams that have already played competitions this spring will remain and be officially recorded by the NCAA and the SLIAC.

Webster University recognizes that the conditions surrounding the coronavirus situation are fluid and can change rapidly. Webster officials continue to monitor the situation closely and are conferring with other conference peers to evaluate the conditions in the interest of the safety of our student athletes and our community.
