2010s All-Decade Teams: Men's Cross Country

Over the next several weeks, Webster University Athletics Department will be releasing its All-Decade Teams of the 2010s. For a full schedule of the teams set to be released, click here.
 
WEBSTER GROVES – Webster University Athletics has begun unveiling its All-Decade Teams from the 2010s as it compiles the best student-athletes across the past 10 seasons (2010-19) in each of Webster's intercollegiate athletic teams. Our sixth team to be unveiled is the 2010-19 All-Decade Men's Cross Country Team.
 
During the past decade, Webster continued its climb into the upper echelon of men's cross country in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference as the Gorloks went from finishing sixth in the SLIAC Championships in both 2010 and 2011 to placing as high as second place in 2018. In fact, since 2014, Webster hasn't finished lower than fourth in the SLIAC Championships and finished as runners-up in both 2014 and 2018. Along with its improvement at the conference level, the Gorloks also made improvement at the regional level as they went from a 35th place showing at the 2010 NCAA Regional to finishing 23rd at this past year's NCAA Regional.
 
Along with the team successes, Webster's runners also achieved numerous accolades in the decade as the 13 members of the All-Decade Team earned a combined 19 All-SLIAC honors, including one Gorlok – Riley Flynn – earning All-SLIAC honors three times. Along with earning 19 All-SLIAC honors, the All-Decade Team members received a combined five first team honors with current Gorlok Nathan Freyling earning back-to-back first team honors the past two seasons. In addition, two members of the All-Decade Team earned SLIAC Newcomer of the Year honors and Ethan Jeffries became the first Gorlok runner in school history to earn All-Region honors as he received the honor in 2013.
 
In addition, three different Gorloks earned SLIAC All-Academic Team honors and the All-Decade Team members combined to earn nine SLIAC Runner of the Week accolades, including Freyling and Cameron Sakuma taking home accolades during the 2019 season.
 
Listed below are the 13 members of the Webster Athletics Men's Cross Country Team of the Decade for the 2010s. The student-athletes on the All-Decade Team, who were selected by Webster head coach Dan Graber, are listed alphabetically.
 
Brandon Brown (Hazelwood, Mo. – 2014-17)
Brown was a four-year lettermen for the Gorloks from 2014-17 and in those four years, he earned All-SLIAC honors as a senior in 2017 after recording a 14th place finish at the SLIAC Championships. Along with earning All-SLIAC honors in 2017, he also had one career Top 10 finish and five career Top 20 finishes and was named to the SLIAC All-Sportsmanship Team in 2015. In addition, he currently has the sixth fastest 6K time in school history as he ran a time of 20:11 at the Western Illinois Early Bird in 2017.
 
Tayler Carter (Hawk Point, Mo. – 2016-17)
Despite running just two years in the decade (2016-17), Carter earns a spot on the All-Decade Team after earning All-SLIAC honors as a senior in 2017 after placing 11th at the SLIAC Championships. That 11th place finish was the highest for Carter in his two seasons at Webster. In addition, he currently holds the ninth fastest 8K time in school history as he ran a 26:19 at the 2017 SLIAC Championships.
 
Javier Cervantes (Garden City, Kan. – 2018-present)
One of four current Gorloks on the All-Decade Team, Cervantes has earned All-SLIAC honors the past two seasons as he was 14th at the SLIAC Championships in 2018 and placed 11th at the 2019 SLIAC Championships. In 2018, he recorded the ninth fastest 6K time in school history as he ran a time of 20:25 at the Western Illinois Early Bird. Over the past two seasons, he has had four Top 20 finishes as he recorded two in 2018 and 2019.
 
Abram Donovan (Saint Paul, Minn. – 2016-19)
Donovan competed over the final four years of the decade and in those four years, he earned All-SLIAC honors in 2017 after placing 13th at the SLISC Championships and just missed earning All-SLIAC honors in both 2018 and 2019 as he finished 15th and 16th respectively at the SLIAC Championships. Along with his All-SLIAC honor in 2017, Donovan was a two-time member of the SLIAC Fall All-Academic Team. During his Webster career, he had one Top 10 finish and three Top 20 placements. 
 
Greg Fletcher (St. Charles, Mo. – 2012-14)
In the decade, Fletcher was a three-year lettermen for the Gorloks and in that time, he earned All-SLIAC honors as a senior in 2014 after placing 12th at the SLISAC Championships. During his Webster career, he had two Top 20 finishes and ran a career-best 8K time of 27:40 at the 2014 SLIAC Championships.
 
Riley Flynn (O'Fallon, Mo. – 2014-17)
In the middle of the decade, Flynn was one of the top runners in the SLIAC as he is the only member of the All-Decade Team to earn All-SLIAC honors three times as he earned the honors in 2015, 2016 and 2017. Along with his three All-SLIAC honors, he earned First-Team SLIAC honors as a senior in 2017 after placing seventh at the SLIAC Championships. He holds the school record for career Top 20 finishes with 12, including recording five career Top 10 placements. Currently, he has the fifth and sixth fastest 8K times in school history, the fourth fastest 6K time in school history and holds the school's 5K record.
 
Nathan Freyling (Fenton, Mo. – 2017-present)
Another of the four current Gorloks on the All-Decade Team, Freyling has been the team's top runner the past two seasons as he was a First-Team All-SLIAC selection in both 2018 and 2019. In 2018, he placed fourth at the SLIAC Championships and was the runner-up at the 2019 SLIAC Championships. Along with his two First-Team All-SLIAC accolades, he has also been a member of the SLIAC Fall All-Academic Team the past two years and was a SLIAC Runner of the Week in 2019. In addition to his success at the conference level, Freyling recorded a 79th place finish at the 2019 NCAA Midwest Regionals and that 79th place finish is the second highest by a Gorlok in an NCAA meet in school history. Has had two Top 10 finishes and a total of three Top 20 finishes in his career.
 
Eli Guzman (Parkville, Mo. – 2018-present)
Guzman is another of the four current Gorloks on the All-Decade Team as in his two years, he was an All-SLIAC selection in 2018 after finishing 14th at the SLIAC Championships. Along with his 14th place finish at the 2018 SLIAC Championships, he placed 20th at last year's SLIAC Championships. In addition to his All-SLIAC honor in 2018, Guzman earned a spot on the SLIAC Fall All-Academic Team in 2019. He has had three career Top 20 finishes as a Gorlok.
 
Jason Hickson (Hillsboro, Mo. – 2011-14)
Hickson was a four-year lettermen for the Gorloks as he ran at Webster from 2011-14 and in those four years, he was a two-time All-SLIAC selection, including earning first team honors as a senior in 2014. Along with being a two-time All-SLIAC performer, he was also a three-time SLIAC Runner of the Week as he took home the honor twice in 2014 and once in 2013. Additionally, he was also named the Webster Athletes Male Student-Athlete of the Year in 2013-14. In his time as a Gorlok, he had six career Top 10 finishes, including a school record tying five Top 10 finishes in 2014. He has the seventh fastest 8K time in school history as he ran a time of 26:00 at the SIU-Carbondale Invitational in 2014 and also has the third fastest 6K time in school history as he ran a 19:40 at the 2013 WashU Early Bird Invitational. 
 
Ethan Jeffries (Peoria, Ill. – 2012-13)
Despite only lettering for two seasons as a Gorlok, Jeffries was one of the top runners of the decade as he ran at Webster from 2012-13. In his two seasons as a Gorlok, he was a two-time All-SLIAC selection, including taking home first team honors in 2013 after finishing as runner-up at the SLIAC Championships. Along with his two All-SLIAC selections, he was also the SLIAC Newcomer of the Year after placing ninth at the 2012 SLIAC Championships and became the first Gorlok to earn All-Region honors in cross country after placing 24th at the 2013 NCAA Midwest Regionals. He had seven career Top 10 finishes, including a school record tying five Top 10 finishes in 2013. Jeffries holds the top four 8K times in school history and the top two 6K times in the program's history.
 
Gryphon Ketterling (St. Louis, Mo. – 2016)
Another Gorlok that ran for one season and in that one season, 2016, Ketterling earned All-SLIAC honors after finishing 13th at SLIAC Championships. In his only season, Ketterling had one Top 20 finish and a career-best 8K time of 27:21 at the SLIAC Championships.
 
Cameron Sakuma (O'Fallon, Mo. – 2019-present)
The final of the four current Gorloks to earn a spot on the All-Decade Team as in his first season at Webster in 2019, Sakuma earned SLIAC Newcomer of the Year honors and Second-Team All-SLIAC accolades after placing eighth at the 2019 SLIAC Championships. In addition, he earned SLIAC Runner of the Week honors once this past season. During the 2019 season, he had two Top 10 finishes and was Webster's No. 2 finisher at the NCAA Midwest Regionals as he placed 86th overall.
 
Colton Vaughn (Hillsboro, Mo. – 2018)
Vaughn lettered just one season as a Gorlok and in that one season, 2018, he was a Second-Team All-SLIAC selection after placing 11th at the SLIAC Championships. In addition to earning Second-Team All-SLIAC honors, he was also a two-time SLIAC Runner of the Week during the 2018 campaign. Along with his 11th place finish at the SLIAC Championships, Vaughn also placed 11th in his first career collegiate event at the Western Illinois Early Bird. At that event, he recorded a time of 20:08.02, which is fifth on the school's all-time 6K charts.
