Gorloks Remain Unbeaten in SLIAC Play

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University men's soccer team was able to extend their winning streak to 10 straight games this evening when they defeated their crosstown rival, Fontbonne (Mo.) University, by a final score of 1-0. With the win, the Gorloks improve to 12-1 on the season and 8-0 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The loss moved the Griffins to 3-8 on the season and 3-6 in the SLIAC.

The Gorloks out shot the Griffins by a final count of 17-10 in this one as the Gorloks tallied seven shots in the first half and 10 shots in the second half. They were able to put six of those shots on target compared to five shots on target from the Griffins. Fontbonne led in the corner count in this one as they finished with five corner kicks compared to three from Webster.

After 41 minutes of scoreless soccer, the Gorloks were able to find the back of the net with just over three minutes to play in the first half to give Webster a 1-0 lead. Mark Moore had the goal for the Gorloks as he was able to sneak a shot off the post and past the keeper from the top of the box for his eighth goal of the year. Colby Kapp had the assist for Webster, his second of the year.

In the second half of the game, neither team was able to take advantage of their scoring opportunities as the score remained 1-0 at the end of regulation.

Mark Moore finished with a team high five shots in the contest and was able to put two of those on target. Isaac Pearson finished with three shots in the match while Carlos Llamas and Noah Abraham each had two.

Matt Coffey was in goal for the Gorloks as he recorded five saves in the game for his third solo shutout of the season.

The men's soccer team returns to the field on Saturday, October 16th when they host Spalding (Ky.) University for the SLIAC Game of the Week at World Wide Technology Soccer Park. The match is set to start at 3:30 p.m.
