GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Webster University men's soccer team was back in action this evening when they traveled across the river to Greenville, Illinois, to take on the Greenville (Ill.) University Panthers in a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks and the Panthers tied 1-1 as the Gorloks improved to 13-1-1 on the season and 7-0-1 in SLIAC play. The tie moved the Panthers to 8-7-1 on the year and 6-3-1 in conference play.
The Gorloks outshot the Panther 19-11 in this one as they recorded eight shots in the first half, nine shots in the second half, and two shots in overtime. They recorded six corner kicks on the night while the Panthers finished with eight.
After giving up their first goal since the first half of their game on September 25
th, the Gorloks found themselves trailing 1-0 at halftime. They battled back in the second half and were able to get a penalty kick with just over six minutes to play in the game.
Hunter Olaso stepped up and took the penalty for the Gorloks as he calmly placed the ball in the bottom left corner of the net for his second tally of the season.
In overtime, the game got chippy as both sides were trying to find the game winner. The Gorloks came close to scoring after
Carlos Llamas hit the crossbar late in the second overtime period but that was as close as either team would get as the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
Matt Coffey was in goal tonight for the Gorloks as he recorded two saves in the contest to improve to 12-0-1 on the season.
The Gorloks return to the field on Wednesday, October 20
th when they travel to Carlinville, Illinois, to take on the Blackburn (Ill.) College Beavers in a SLIAC matchup. The game is set to start at 1 p.m.
