First Minute Goal Lifts Gorloks Past Panthers

GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Webster University women's soccer team was back on the pitch tonight when they traveled to Greenville, Illinois, to take on the Greenville (Ill.) University Panthers in a SLIAC matchup. Webster defeated the Panthers by a final score of 2-0 to improve to 11-3-1 on the season and 7-2-1 in SLIAC play. With the loss, the Panthers fall to 8-5 on the year and 8-2 in conference play.

Webster outshot the Panthers by a final count of 17-5 in the game. They were able to put six of those shots on target compared to just one from Greenville. The Panthers led in the corner count as they finished with four corner kicks while the Gorloks finished with three.

It did not take long for the Gorloks to get on the board in this one as Jordan Lande found the back of the net for the 14th time this season just 35 seconds into the game. Abbey Poe had the assist for Webster as her shot was saved and bounced right to Lande who was there to clean it up and give Webster a 1-0 lead.

Webster was back at it again in the second half when Jaqlyn Ferguson was able to beat the Panther keeper for her first goal of the year. Abbey Poe once again had the assist as she took advantage of a throw-in deep in Panther territory. She threw the ball into the box to Ferguson who beat a defender and put it in the near corner to solidify the win.

Taryn Banfield was in goal tonight for Webster as she recorded one save in the match for her sixth solo shutout of the year.

The Gorloks are back in action on Wednesday, October 20th when they travel to Carlinville, Illinois, to take on the Blackburn (Ill.) College Beavers in a SLIAC matchup. The game is set to start at 3 p.m.
