Gorloks Solidify Second Seed With Win

ELSAH, Ill. – This afternoon the Webster University women's soccer team was back on the pitch for their final game of the regular season when they traveled to Elsah, Illinois, to take on the Principia (Ill.) College Panthers in a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks were able to defeat the Panthers by a final score of 3-0 to improve to 15-3-1 on the season and 11-2-1 in the conference. The loss moves Principia to 4-11-1 on the year and 4-10 in SLIAC play.

The Gorloks finished the game with 17 shots including nine on target. They held the Panthers to just two shots in the contest while not allowing them to put any on frame. Webster also led in the corner count as they had eight in the game compared to one from Principia.

It did not take long for the Gorloks to get on the board in this one as they were able to score in the first minute of the game. Jordan Lande had the goal for Webster as she was able to finish off her 18th tally of the year to give the Gorloks a 1-0 lead. Her goal was her 49th career goal which ties her for fifth all-time in Webster history. Jennifer Munger had the assist, her 10th of the year.

The Gorloks continued to push the tempo and were able to pick up two more goals in the half to solidify the win. Mackenzie Sundhausen was able to finish off her ninth of the year in the 10th minute of the game to give Webster a 2-0 lead. Mackenzie O'Neal recorded her fifth assist of the season on the play. Sophie Thoman had the final goal for the Gorloks as she finished off her first of the year in the 42nd minute.

Heather Jones was in goal for the Gorloks as she recorded her first solo shutout of the season.

The win today solidifies the second seed and a sport in the semifinals of the SLIAC Women's Soccer Tournament. They will host their semifinal game on Thursday, November 4th at 5 p.m. at World Wide Technology Soccer Park and will find out who they play after the quarterfinals on Tuesday.
