ST. LOUIS, Mo. – This evening the Webster University women's soccer team was back on the pitch when they played host to the Greenville (Ill.) University Panthers in the SLIAC Women's Soccer Tournament Semifinal. The Gorloks, who earned the second seed in the SLIAC Tournament, defeated the third seeded Panthers by a final score of 2-0 to advance to the SLIAC Tournament Final. The loss ends the Panthers season as they finished the year with a 11-8 overall record.
The Gorloks outshot the Panthers 12-3 in this one and were able to put eight of their shots on target compared to three from Greenville. They also finished with six corner kicks compared to three from the Panthers.
It did not take long for the Gorloks to get on the board in this one as
Mackenzie O'Neal was able to finish off her sixth of the season in the sixth minute of the game.
Jordan Lande had the assist for Webster as she played a great ball through the Panthers defense and right to O'Neal who slotted into the far corner of the net. The Gorloks had a chance to go up 2-0 at the end of the half but
Jordan Lande had her penalty kick saved in the final 15 seconds of the period to keep the score at 1-0 at the break.
The Panthers came out in the second half and took it to the Gorloks early as they forced
Taryn Banfield to make a huge save in the first few minutes of the period. Webster settled in as the half progressed and were able to pick up their second tally of game in the 76
th minute.
Isabella Dickneite had the goal for Webster as she was able to head in a corner kick from
Jaqlyn Ferguson for her second goal of the year.
Taryn Banfield was in goal for the Gorloks as she made three saves in her 10
th solo shutout of the season.
With the win tonight, the Gorloks will advance to the SLIAC Women's Soccer Tournament Final. The game will take place on Saturday, November 6
th as they will play the winner of the top seeded Fontbonne (Mo.) University Griffins and the fourth seeded Spalding (Ky.) University Golden Eagles. The time and place have not yet been announced.
