FULTON, Mo. – The Webster University men's soccer team was back on the pitch this evening when they traveled to Fulton, Missouri, to take on the Westminster (Mo.) College Blue Jays in a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks were able to defeat the Blue Jays for a second time this season as they won by a final score of 4-0 to improve to 10-1 on the season and 6-0 in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. With the loss, the Blue Jays fall to 2-7-2 on the season and 2-4-1 in SLIAC play.
The win tonight marks the 100
th career win for head coach
Mike Siener. In nine seasons at the helm, Siener has accumulated an overall record of 100-49-15 for a winning percentage of 0.655. He has led the team to three SLIAC Regular Season titles, a SLIAC Tournament Championship, and has been named the SLIAC Men's Soccer Coach of the Year three times. He currently ranks second all-time in Webster history in career wins behind Marty Todt who had 238 wins in 25 seasons.
The Gorloks played well in this one as they posted 12 shots in the first half and four shots in the second half for 16 total shots in the game. They put 10 of those shots on target while allowing the Blue Jay's to tally four total shots in the contest. Westminster led the corner count as they finished with six corner kick opportunities compared to two from the Gorloks.
Mark Moore got the scoring for the Gorloks as he was able to finish off his fifth of the season just four minutes into the game to give Webster an early 1-0 lead.
Tanner Haugen had the assist for the Gorloks, his second of the season.
Noah Abraham scored the second and third goals for the Gorloks as he found the back of the net for his second goal of the season in the 39
th minute to give Webster a 2-0 lead.
James Carr had the assist for the Gorloks. Abraham was back at it again just four minutes later when he finished off his third of the season from
Henok Moges to give the Gorloks a 3-0 lead at the break.
Carlos Llamas finished off the scoring for the Gorloks as he found the back of the net for the seventh time this season in the 50
th minute of the game.
Noah Abraham had the assist for the Gorloks to give him five total points in the game.
Matt Coffey and
Jacob Klevorn split time in goal for the Gorloks tonight as they combined to make two saves in the teams seventh shutout of the season.
The men's soccer team will return to the field on Saturday, October 9
th when they play host to Principia (Ill.) College for a SLIAC matchup. This game will serve as senior day for the Gorloks and prior to the start of the match we will honor the nine seniors on the team for their hard work and dedication to the men's soccer program throughout their time in a Webster uniform. The game is set to kick off at 3:30 p.m. at World Wide Technology Soccer Park.
