Gorloks Sweep Principia College

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – This evening the Webster University volleyball team was back on the court when they played host to the Principia (Ill.) College Panthers in a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks were able to sweep the Panthers in three straight sets (25-5, 25-8, 25-6) to improve to 8-9 on the season. With the loss, the Panthers fall to 0-9 on the year.

The Gorloks played well in this one as they finished with 14 kills in the first set, 16 kills in the second set, and 10 kills in the third set for 40 total kills in the match. They finished with a .420 attacking percentage while holding the Panthers to just nine kills in the match and a -.079 attacking percentage.

Webster came out in the first set and jumped out to an early 8-5 lead. They never let the Panthers score another point in the set and cruised to a 25-5 victory to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

The Gorloks carried their momentum over into the second set and were able to score the first six points of the game to jump out to a 6-0 lead. They continued to play well as the set progressed and held a 20-5 lead late in the game. The Panthers battled back and scored three of the next five points, but Webster was able to pick up the final points of the set to solidify the win.

After exchanging the first two points in the third game, the Gorloks went on an 10-0 run to take an 11-1 lead in the set. They never let the Panthers back in the game and took the third set by a final score of 25-6 to solidify the three-game sweep.

Lauren Borik led the way for the Gorloks as she finished with a match high seven kills to go along with a match high 13 digs. Emma Leppien and Kyra Gensel also had nice games as Leppien finished with a match high 12 assists while Gensel finished with eight digs. In addition, Kaylee Portell finished with 10 service aces which is the second most in a single game in Gorlok history behind Adrienne Norbury who had 20 service aces against Stephens (Mo.) College in 2001.

The Gorloks are back on the court on Saturday, October 9th when they travel to Monmouth, Illinois, to take on the Monmouth (Ill.) College Scots in a nonconference matchup. The match is set to start at 11 a.m.
